I would use this general rule of thumb. MSRP of the truck, - 10k with rebates and discounts. If you are in that ball park, and you like the truck, you should feel pretty good. My truck had a MSRP of 47.5, got it for 36.8 before TTL but after rebates and discounts. This was not even a 2012, but a 2013, and had the Ecoboost so not 5.0L rebate. If you are not in a hurry, order a brochure for the F150 off the website and they will generally send a $750 off coupon that stacks with everything else.

Virginia sales tax on vehicle sales is 3%. I think they calculated the msrp $49220 minus the $5250 which came to 43970. Then they calculated ttl (1319 + 499 + 55) on that which was 1873, making the price before rebates 45843. Then they subtracted the rebates of 4250 which left me with $41593 out the door price.

No trade-in. I had a pretty good down payment since I was driving a 2012 Tacoma that just got totaled. The other persons insurance was real good to me. So glad to be back in a ford!

Yeah, I'm a bonehead. On the Ford build site, they now include the available incentives - which they didn't before - so the price is reduced only $500. So my out-the-door total is now $42,443 with TTL. They're also throwing in a Line-X spray-in, so I think it's a pretty good deal for a '13 FX4 Screw, ruby red, 5.0, 402A luxury package, moonroof, nav, tailgate step, and 20" wheels. I think I'll go ahead and ge the 3.73 gears, which about nullifies the $500 price drop, but as they say, it's better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it.

Thanks for all the replies. Just got a blizzard here in Iowa; hopefully I can make it in to the dealer this weekend after I clean up the trade-in (2004 BMW 530i w/53K miles - and I hope that they give me a good trade-in value for it or I'm walking - KBB has it at 13K and Edmunds - notoriously low on appraising BMWs in particular - has it at just over $10K so we'll see).

I'm checking out 2013's as well (2013 F-150 Supercrew 4X4, sterling gray, 302A package, 3.55 locking rear axle). MSRP has been around the $42,XXX mark, and I've seen them low as $33000 (mainly in the DFW area). The dealers here in OKC are reluctant to sell a truck at that price.

I just sent off for my hard copy brochure today, and hopefully, I'll receive that $750.00 coupon. That would help out with the tags too.

Terraformer, I'm letting go my beloved 2001 BMW 330i with 50k on the clock for this truck. She's going to my best friend. I love BMW's and do some side work doing automotive work on them, but they are getting way too expensive for my taste. That, and I don't have BMW big dollars anymore, ever since I got married.

Try TrueCar.com. It does work.

Today, I go to Ford.com and build the same truck, and the MSRP is now $45,615 - a $4,000 drop. So I contacted the dealer I was going to go with, attached screenshots of the build and MSRP, and asked if I can assume that the dealer's price would now be $38,943 - i.e., $4,000 less than previously.

The dealer responded by saying "The price did not drop they increased the rebate by $500 from $3500 to $4000. If you look below there are already $3500 in rebates plus your certificate. now there is $500 more for a total of $4000 plus your certificate."

This explanation doesn't pass the smell test - or I am a math idiot which may well be true. So, we had an initial MSRP of $49,615. The dealer's price breakdown was a sale price of $45,020, then a rebate of $2,000, another $1,000 to use FMCC (Ford credit - which I'd then refinance with someone else), and $750 for going to Ford Direct, and then $500 off for going with the V8.

Why shouldn't I expect the dealer's quote to go down $4,000 if the MSRP has clearly gone down by that much? I think I'm being snookered here, but would appreciate any feedback/comments.

BTW - this is for a 2013 FX4 Crew, 5.0L, ruby red, moonroof + nav, tailgate step, and 20" wheels.

Thanks!

Hey Dan, I hear you. I've had BMWs since the 80s and it's tough to let it go. But now we live in the country with some acreage, accessed by a gravel/dirt road. I already foresee much work around the property, and in any event the roominess is desirable given a small child and some dogs. This Screw will be great for that - and no other truck can match the back seat legroom. Good luck with your purchase!

TruckLarry: yes, I've seen Truecar. And several other sites. And given what is there, it appears I'm getting a good deal. I just don't look at any one site for information, I look at several.
