I think it also depends on the type of terrain as well. No way anyone around here is going to get 20 plus with a 5.0 consistently around here. Too many hills to deal with. I have tried by best to drive as economical as possible and cant average much over 18 mpg for any stretch of road. Maybe for a few miles but the first big hill and down it goes. My lifetime average is 16.4.

As a civil engineer, I can tell you that there are way too many different speeds and road types that are technically classified as highway to make a generalization.

Even though I've been kinda bashing on the guy, fuelly won't tell him the information he is looking for.

When I say mine it's 60- 70MPH highways in and around San Antonio and Austin. I usually do between 72-77 on those roads regardless if its 60/65/70.

Highway - No stop lights or signs. Constant driving at set speed.

City - Roads with stop light's and signs. Varied speeds.

At least that's what this old country boy thinks.

Point im getting to is alot of people are upsest there trucks are not getting the Mileage that epa/ford posts for "highway". Sounds like its what ever people want it to be and that there is no set speed for testing or to base it on.

Thats to bad, in all likleyness, guys getting very poor mileage are probably the ones driving at the higher "highway" speeds. Guys getting 20+ are probably running 55.

Anyways, thats all i was after.

You are right, epa tests them at 55, you won't get mileage on the sticker if you go 80.

Yesterday, I was driving on both 2 lane and 4 lane roads. Speed limits were 55 and 65 respectively. I drove the speed limit with the cruise control on the whole way and averaged 20.5 mpg.
