Default MPG nomenclature on here

With all these Ecoboost/5.0 mpg threads going on i had a simple question.

When guy are stating they are getting 20 mpg highway, is that 60 mph 2 lane or 70 mph 4 lane?

I guess whats the definition of highway on here.

Also at what speed are the EPA highway numbers measured at?

I get 20+ in both scenarios. 21 at 60, 20 at 70. EPA numbers are not just at one speed for a period of time. I believe they average approx 47mph.

At 60 mph, my FX2 5.0 hovers around 23-24 mpg on average. At 70 mph, it's more like 21-22. I wish I could stay at 60, but I usually end up around 75-80

my best test of MPG to date was my trip to FL (from MD) back in Nov.

the trip down was kept around 70 sometimes a little more and I got 21.4 combined avg hand calculated.
on the way home, I was less concerned with economy and more with making good time and I just kept up with traffic, if that meant 85-90 so be it. my hand calculated avg mpg on the return trip was just shy of 19 (18.8). it was also primarily during the day and down south it was still warm enough to run the AC. the trip down to Fl was fairly chilly so no open windows OR AC was used.

Wow..... i dont really care specifically what people are getting for mpg. There are endless threads on this...

I just want to know what the definition of highway is on here. 2 lane or 4 lane roads.

My guess the definition of highway has less to do with what speed you are driving and more with the fact that you aren't stopping & starting.

Number of lanes doesn't make a difference with regard to MPGs. We told you the info you wanted based on the speeds you posted. No need to get an attitude when people answer the question you ask.

And in case you're not getting it... It doesn't matter if a road is one lane or one million lanes. If all else is equal, the MPGs will be equal. Number of lanes is of no consequence to MPGs.

Correct. I know that lanes dont matter. I guess where im from 2 lane (highway) is 55 mph. 4 lane (interstate) is 65mph.

Every one that posts MPG of there trucks says they get XX MPG "highway". My question is what constitutes highway to people in general.

im wondering if a lot of these guys pulling 20+mpg week in and week out are going 55-60 mph or 65-70 mph.

I never asked for what people get for MPG. seems like every thread started on here ends with guys just posting what they get for MPG.

It varies by state, in North Dakota 2 Lane highways are 65 and interstates are 75, other 4 lanes that aren't interstates are 70.

My guess is that highway is anything that isn't in town and will vary greatly depending on state and road traveled whether it be a 55mph road or a 75mph interstate is impossible to say but you can bet people getting better mileage are driving slower. I get 20-21 in my 5.4l if I go 55mph, but I never go 55mph. I get about 15-16 at 75-80.

Without doing this...

Seems most here are answering your incredibly specific question, but you're just complaining anyway.
