Default Model Designation

Does Ford have any internal codes to refer to the different generations of F150s? For example, e36, e46, e90 to refer to different models of BMW M3s.

If you mean platforms yes:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ford_P_platform

We are currently in P415, MY2014 is P415MCR and MY2015 platform name is P552 or P55X for some OEM manufactures with the X representing multi-platform.

Expect to see some of the following (rumored) in 2014 and 2015:
  • Heated Steering wheel
  • Extensive use of Aluminum
  • Multi contour seats like the SHO/MKS
  • 360 degree camera
  • Active park assist
  • LED box lighting
  • Tailgate dampener
  • Box with storage for ramps
  • Remote unlocking tailgate
  • LED headlamps
  • Active grille shutters
  • Stop start technology
  • And more of course
As far as engines go once again rumored the 5.0L v8 and the 3.5L ecoboost are here to stay and are rumored to have increased fuel economy ratings along with more towing capacity thanks to the use of aluminum. They will be joined by a 2.7L V6 ecoboost 320hp/375 ft/lbs and a 3.5 N/A entry level v6 280hp/250 ft/lbs. (later engines by 2015?)

Now is the time to get the 6.2l V8 the speculation is they'll be gone by 2015.
