Mike Rowe: 2009 F150 vs Everyone Else

the only point id like to argue is displacement... a 5.3 chevy will smoke a 5.4, not by a whole lot but it is faster. engine design is more important then displacement. a few other things to consider would be ratings and weight. hp ratings are just factory ratings and aren't very accurate from either manufacture. on trucks tv they dynoed a new 5.4 at just over 200 at the wheels. they are rated at 310hp, so this would mean that if the ratings were actualy acurate then the trany would have to account for about a 35% loss, no trany drags 35%. my allison robs about 25%... the other thing is f-150s just weigh more, not much you can do about that.
If someone started a thread titled "Which is faster, my freinds Chevy 6.0 with minor mods or my 2004 Lightning with a 8lb pulley and a reflash?" then you can blow all the smoke you want. Obviously displacement and actual dyno numbers mean squat when the one with the least true hp and smallest displacement drags the other "big guys" around like an f-ing lawn airator. So it won't win in a drag race... big deal.
See post #15, substitute in Silverado for Tundra... It still works.

I agree...90% of people buy a truck because of what it can do, not because their gonna try and drag race another truck at every single light...Thats what the roush F150 and Dodge SRT are for no? Racing was the last thing in my mind when I was comparing The Ford vs the Dodge and even titan. I ended up buying the ford for gas...personal preference (i.e.) interior, body looks, and handling and ride. I love the way it handles...However, not to thrilled about my U-Turn radius on my f150...But thats why i bought a truck, jumping a curb never hurt. All in all, The Truck won my money...Now that I have it, sure i would like it to be faster, but thats not why I bought it.

Heavy get over it. This entire thread has nothing to do with wich truck is faster. We are comparing what matters in trucks primarily - what people buy them for (ie: towing capacity- Ford wins, fuel economy- Ford wins, payload stability- Ford wins, chassis rigidity- Ford wins). Most people don't go to a dealership and say "Hmmm, I like the $40,000 burgundy truck over there b/c it can do everything I need it to. I just can't stroke that check though 'cause it doesn't run a 12 second 1/4 and 0-60 times are not quite as quick as a 'vette".

your right, most people dont by a truck for performance. i personally just couldn't handle driving a slow truck every day, i don't need a rocket ship like vette or something, but little power when i want it is nice. most people aren't like me and that's fine. you all say you don't care that your trucks are slow but then get pissed when i mention anything about there performance... get over it, if you didn't buy the truck to go fast then don't worry about what i have to say about its performance. fuel mileage is very debatable, i don't know about the new engines but 2valve5.4 vs 5.3, or even 6.0 in a half ton, and powerstrokes vs duramax chevy wins hands down.

For how advanced technology is becoming these days its still amazing that the Ford can make every one of those trucks just seem like a waste of craftsmanship... hehe

Power can be bought heavy, we all know that.
Looks like we can add danger to the obsnizzle and heavy chevy group

Are they perfect? No. But what vehicle is? It surely isn't a current GM or Dodge product.

Guys, simmer down... I do believe that he forgot a key word. I think he meant to say that all those other trucks seem like a waste of craftsmanship.

LOOK AT HIS PROFILE- HE DRIVES A BEAUTIFUL '96 UP FOR TOTM.
Geez, I think we all need to get laid to relieve some defensive stress after these last couple of days.

Thanks Lenn... Maybe I wasn't clear enough but I wasnt trying to bash the ford in any way I was mostly saying how great it was to see ford so far ahead from its competitors... And yes I have stepped into a ford dealership my father has a new f150 and Im thinking of stepping into one as well. I wont own nothing but a Ford truck, Ive owned a toyota and a chevy and wont even touch a dodge with a 20' pole unless its a srt10 my trucks are ford and my cars are bmw and toyota thats all I will ever own
