ok max tow and regular tow package's all have the same springs (going buy the parts i see on the shelf) was working at mission valley ford truck center (san Jose) when I noticed the springs on a shelf. all looked the same so I asked and was told buy parts manger they where all the same! he went on to show me the only thing that makes a max tow, a max tow is its hitch and bumper. if you look at the end of the two tow hitches max tows are solid no hole in it through the cross tube where as the regular tow hitch has that tube wide open? he never showed me the bumper's or how they differ but its not a lot of defense in the hitch to gain that much weight capacity in my mind

I would imagine the max payload has different leafs, not max tow.

The regular tow package has the select shift trany, bigger radiator and trany oil cooler as well. Max Tow adds:
- trailer brake controller
- upgraded rear bumper
- manual/power telescoping mirrors with heated glass and integrated turn signals.
There are a ton of variants. You can find this info on www.ford.com/towing guides

I had a 13 XLT with the standard tow package while my coworker had a 13 platinum with max payload. His has an extra leaf spring and the same number lugs on the axle. The max tow has the beefier springs and heavy duty axles

My XLT has regular tow and Heavy Duty Payload Package. My payload is 2,221 so I guess it is a one ton truck.

You have the HD Payload Pkg. also. That's why your axle ratings are 4050 front and 4800 rear.

You're right. I was reading 8200# GVWR PACKAGE from the window sticker and that is only part of it. If I ever get a level or lift, I should keep the front springs huh.
