Making an XLT into a FX4?

Making an XLT into a FX4?
If you were to make a standard bland xlt and wanting it to have all the features of an fx4... what would that entail?
I like my truck but it is so bland, rides and drives like noahs ark. It's like a pair of khaki pants. Gets the job done but it's boring to me. I'd like to spice it up but not sure if it's worth just spicing up the one I have. I like cool lookin trucks and always have since I was a youngster. Thought about modding but how crazy is it to make so many changes on a standard run of the mill xlt. Would it be better to get FX4 and start there. Or could my bland khaki pant truck be and look cool and ride like a luxury car?
Pretty much my truck to a T right here. Mine is a 4x4. 4.6L

XLT's can be made to stand out in the crowd just as easily. I've always gone the FX4 route because of the painted bumpers and black interiors. You have silver, which imo is one of the best colors to compliment chrome. Level it with some aftermarket coilovers, throw on some 20x9 chrome wheels with aggressive A/T's and you're off to a great start.
Different lights, like all red led tails and a custom hid retrofit would compliment well.
Of course I could go on for days helping you spend your money.

haha chaching chaching. My wife has no issue thinking of ideas to spend money either.
You raise a good perspective. Accents. I never thought of it in that way. Chrome does accent Silver well. I like black and black chrome accents better though. I've never been into shiny chrome much. I think it is most effective in subtle uses. Just my own opinion and preference. Don't dislike it by any means.

The year model and option package makes a HUGE difference in any trim level.
Take for example my nicely optioned 2013 XLT, there is nothing plain or boring about it.
Granted I did personalize her to my tastes but the base I started with was more than adequate. If you want bland and boring buy an XL.

This is true, but most trucks that come with chrome these days have too much chrome. So my last couple trucks have been FX4's. Before I ordered my stripped down 2011 FX4 (only options I chose were Ecoboost and 20" wheels) I figured out the difference in cost between it and an XLT, and it would have cost about the same by the time I had the bumpers and grill surround PTM'd and bought black trimmed headlights and tail lights so I bought the stripped down FX4.

Well $ wise, makes sense to just buy an fx4. You have a very base xlt with a 4.6, so IMO stick with what ya got or change if you want all the fx4 has...

Get a tuner and custom tune! This was the first thing I did with my 4.6 3V! The results will have you smiling! I went with five star tuning but there are many out there. I run 93 tune and the tune on motor and tranny make it drive like a different truck, IE no more Noah's ark feeling.
As to looks, like others said, throw a level, some rims and tires on it with a little tint and it will be a new truck!
