I'm curious about this too. I will have to check my rear window to make sure that it is completely closed, but I have the same behavior. Button doesn't light, but mirrors heat up. I'm not all that worried about the rear windows because I have a camper shell, so it doesn't need to be defrosted.

Can you provide some more info about which contact you cleaned?

Can you provide some more info about which contact you cleaned?
If you open the back window a couple inches you can see the contacts on the inside and outside drivers side through the glass. From the inside you can get the straw from the can into the contact area and clean them. I also took 220 grit sand paper folded it over and slid it into the contact area and ran the window back and forth. Then sprayed again.
