Default Mistake by me...

In 2007 I bought a Chevy 1500 and put a matching Leer cap on it.
Worked great. Cargo was always dry. I loved it.
My screw up was having dark tinted rear window in my truck and dark
tinted glass all the way around in the Leer.
The good part was you couldn't see inside. (Daytime)
The bad part was that at night you couldn't see thru it.
Example:
I tried to turn around on a narrow snow bound mountain road,
with a big drop off, with snow on the mirrors. couldn't see a thing.
One less layer of dark tinting and it would have been easier.
Lesson learned. Sometimes we make things dark enough to keep
out prying eyes, but end up making things harder on ourselves.

I let the Leer go when I traded the Chevy for a F-250...
Better truck, but with a leatherette cargo cover.

Hey Dan! Good story.. caused me to think as I am dark tinted all around, both the cab and the cap.... I couldn't reverse at night with cap on now if I didn't have the back up camera and rear sensor. The cams they are putting in these days are super sensitive in the dark.. I am pleasantly surprised they got it right... the image is almost like daytime brightness out behind, with dark skies.

On it from shortly after it was purchased. Did a run with two dogs in the back at -38*F with a bike inner-tube between the windows and the dogs stayed warm the entire trip. Keeps the cargo dry and away from prying eyes.

Nicely done Alaska! Do you have a pic of your cold weather front, and what winterization have you done if I might ask? All I had to do here in Costa del Toronto was check the fluids for low temp use, and put the Good Year Ultra Grip Ice WRT's on, with their own shoes. I plug it in every night upon returning home and the engine warms up within a minute or so first thing every morning.

Northerners understand utility and most have done something to the back of their units.

There is a CHMSL wire under the hood. Can't remember where.

Those look good! That's the reason I want one -- the dogs. I'd rather put them in there than in a carrier on a trip.
