Loss of power/mpgs after oil change
So I had my oil changed at 20,000 miles and since then, my truck seems like it's lost power and it's certainly lost mpgs...like 2-3.
Details on the truck are
2014 FX4 SCREW with 6 1/2' bed, 5.0L, 3.55.
Mods:
4" BDS Lift
305-55-20
Tuner with 5 Star 87 perf/tow tune and have adjusted for bigger wheel size.
PLEASE READ THIS!!!
The mpgs were fine before the last oil change EVEN WITH THESE MODS.
Of course, I did lose some mpgs after the lift and bigger tires but the loss of power and mpgs only happened after the oil change.
After the mods, I lost a few mpgs as expected but now, my city mpgs are 10/11 when it used to be (after the mods) 13/14.
I reloaded the tune and it made no difference.
What could have happened from an oil change to make it so different.
Oh, Ford does all my oil changes and I go every 5,000 miles.

Maybe there was some shearing in your old oil, the thinner oil felt better and gave better mpgs (as thinner oils do) and when they put fresh, non-sheared oil back in it felt like it should?
Either than or they put a heavier weight oil in on accident...only things I could really imagine. Make sure they didnt over/underfill it

The warranty service was the solenoid that activates the 4WD. Wouldn't think that would effect the MPGs.

I'm going to guess they used the wrong weight oil, happens a lot. Have you ever changed the air filter? 20-30000 miles on average depending on terrain driven on. Dirt roads more frequent change will be required.

Wrong oil could be it.
I've changed the air filter already...do off roading in dusty environments so I changed at 15k.
Regarding gas, drove around 200 miles on the same tank before I put new gas in.
The feeling was immediate when I picked it up.
If it is in fact heavier oil, what damage if any could it cause?
I'm about to take a 1200 mile trip...all highway.

If there's any question about the oil, change it before you go. Engine damage is possible.

OP I can relate. Just put in Mobile 1 full syn. high mileage oil in my '09 5.4, same weight as usual (5w30), and am experiencing the very same symptoms. Possible high mileage oil flows a little thicker or something but regardless I never thought an oil could result in a performance difference up or down.
