Default Looking at a used 2009 F150

Hey y'all,
I'm looking at possibly purchasing an 09 f150 platinum, Screw, 4x4, 5.4l, 3.73 with max tow package. It has 55,600 miles in it. Is there anything I should be looking for when test driving it?

Thanks

It's low mileage, so that's good. If it's a Ford dealer your buying from, ask to see the service records. They should have them if the truck was serviced by Ford. I suggest you do a search on the 5.4L in this section of the forum. I don't think the '09's had any serious problems, but not to sure. After driving the truck you should have a good gut feeling of how well it was taken car of. There really isn't that many problems with these trucks. Good luck.

Im sure price is a factor as it always is but have you looked at the spec differences between an 09 and an 11?

Yes, I would love to get an '11 but unfortunately $30k is my limit, want the max tow package with a V8 and figured leather would easier to clean with the kids. From what I found the '11 is out of my price range with those options.

Only isues I have had with my 09 is leaking transmission and I had to have a new pcm tune due O2 sensors problem. Other than that it is a great truck.

What are you towing? I paid 26k for my 12 lariat supercrew 5.0 4x4 with 64k miles on it. I had an 05 lariat with the 5.4L and would not drive another one, even if the 6 speed transmission in the newer trucks makes it more peppy. I had trouble with the motor and the 09 and 10s were not really very different and will be susceptible tor the same cam chain tensioner issues (hydraulically actuated and driven by oil pressure rather than torque like on the 5.0). They are still relatively new and only offered in the new body for two years but Google it, you will see the same failures as in the 04-08s.

Plus, the 11+ trucks got Electric power steering and the big info display in the dash as well as select shift. If you will be towing anything, hold out for select shift in an 11. The the 5.0 is a potent power plant, towes sooo much better than my old 5.4 did and when you mash the go pedal, it snarles and moves out.

You can easily find a nicely optioned 11+ 4x4 with similar miles for less than 30k. Don't get me wrong the 5.4 is pretty good in the 09-10, but the 11s are just leaps ahead. Select shift is great

Dealer is asking 32 for my '11 5.0 fx4 crew. Leather, sony, etc. Has 23,000 mikes.

I'm not into buying used, especially for that coin. I'd get a new truck with less options over a used truck with lots of options

Unfortunately in the NY are things are more expensive, finding a used '11 with Screw, 4x4,3.73 and 5.0 engine is difficult if not impossible especially for under $30k

It may be very worth it to you to possibly look out of town. For $30k you should be able to find a used '11 with ~50k miles pretty easily. For the money you'd save you could fly or bus and drive her back. I've seen a few guys on here that were looking for deals do that and it always works out for them when they are on a strict budget. I had a 2010, and now a 2012, I can tell you with out a doubt the leap between 2010/2011 is significant enough to search hard for a 2011. If you're going to be, for lack of a better word, stuck then I would search very hard for a 2011.
Now you will not find a platinum for that price but I'm sure you can find a nicely optioned FX4 or Lariat in '11 model year. Both will have leather, among other goodies. Good luck with the hunt man!
Just my 2 cents tho bud, keep us posted as to how it goes!
