Default looking at buying this truck what do you all think? 2009 platinum

HI all looking at a 2009 f150 platinum 4x4 fully loaded. Had 185k kinda high on the mileage, but he's asking $15k. Thinking about offering 12k.

It looks clean from the pics. The miles would scare me. Have you drove it? Does it run smooth? No noticeable engine knocks?

Looks like a nice truck, but the miles are kind of high (to me) for that money. What engine is in it?

Still a top trim truck regardless of miles.

even at 12k the mileage is a huge factor.. how much life is actually left on that truck without sinking a ton of money into it for worn out parts etc...

If your looking for something reliably I would stay away from something with that many miles. On the plus side it will look good on the side of the road while your waiting on a tow truck. I doubt you will be happy with it. Most trucks with that mileage start having problem after problem. Im sure somebody will chime in and say there truck has half a million miles on it and they are still on the original tires the truck came with.

The other side of the coin is that for as much as you save you could replace all the suspension/steering wear components and have a great riding truck for another 100k miles. As long as the engine and transmission check out I think they should be good for 250-300k miles. There are a lot of 97-03 trucks out there with over 200k still going strong and while I know the engine isn't exactly the same, it is similar.

I am in a similar boat but with slightly newer trucks and the Ecoboost. To get the truck I want at the price I want I need to find something with slightly higher miles. I found an '11 with 105k and a '13 with 65k, both higher mileage for the years. Good luck with your decision. If you don't put a ton of miles on the truck each year or only keep your vehicles a few years I think you would be ok.

Looks like a pretty clean truck, but I would personally rather have something that's maybe a lower trim level with far lower miles, just for peace of mind.

Default Hmmmm

Here's the deal. I have done a lot of research on these trucks. Everything looks good from what I have read. However, with mileage like that there are always a lot of unknowns. Also, keep in mind that miles are one thing and age is another. A newer higher mileage truck, though it has been driven a lot, may be able to get even more miles on it with no issues at all. If it is a dd I would be so curious to see how it performs after the 200000 mark. 100000 isn't alot these days. 185? Seems like alot but, it's a ford. They are good trucks. As for the price? No, way too much. Who ever is selling it wants to get rid of it. Offer 10000, counter back back with 11000 if need be then walk if it's a no go. The one thing I do know is the pricing. Kbb means nothing on newer trucks with high miles bc they don't know what they are capable of. You could get a xlt loaded for $17000 with only 100000 miles on it. There is a time to sell a truck and it's not with that many miles on it. Sellers beware! If you can get it for ten I say go for it. It may seem crazy to the seller but he waited too long imo. Platinums are awesome, drive it off the lot, and like any truck value starts to depreciate. Not as much as cars, but enough. I just bought a 2014. I sat on that truck for a year. Watching the price go down, and down. There are ways to get a good deal so if you want my advice. Think it through, btw it's a nice lookin truck!
