Maybe it was not the tech that left it. How about maybe the sm or some one else grabbed it to check some thing else ?

Some of the damned roads here in w. PA that light wouldn't have stayed there for more than thirty feet.

Know one is perfect, it was a honest mistake that luckily did not harm anyone or your truck. Take the light back and thank the guy thats most likely making less money then you and working twice as hard.

I'm not sure what OP is so upset about... Mechanic made a small mistake. It doesn't mean he's not paying attention to his work. It doesn't mean he doesn't do good work.

I wouldn't be happy about tools left in or on my truck after the job was done either. As the pictures show it doesn't have one, but what if there was a cord on that light that started to drag and got caught ? It could have then ripped out wiring under the truck. As someone else pointed out it could have come out and hit another car or a motorcycle. In the end nothing happened so no harm no foul but there was potential for harm to his truck or others on the road. We're all human and we all make mistakes.

Different situation but same type of story with a different ending. I work in a paper mill. One of the machines was down for routine maintenance. When the guys finished working on some big gears on the back of the machine one of them left a screwdriver on one of the teeth. Nobody saw it and when the crew started that piece of equipment the screwdriver came flying out through the machine and out the front. Luckily the guy standing there is only 5'1". It went over him and hit the wall. Could've ended badly.

LOL! These threads make me chuckle. We expect everything that everyone else does be absolutely perfect, yet expect grace when we personally make mistakes. If a person is negligent or derelict in his/her duties, then I would have cause for concern, but when incidents like this happen to me I think back to the millions of mistakes I have made in my lifetime and how I was forgiven and moved on. The guy (a fellow human) made a mistake. That's it. Had he done it to me I'd have returned the tool without destroying the man's dignity in the exact same manner that I have always been afforded.

Mistakes happen, if you had any idea how much pressure they are under to produce hours you would know how this could happen. Im sure he or she would be delighted to have it back.

I had a GM dealer do some diff work, when they put it back together they attached the u joint on the driveshaft finger tight, well not even finger right, just a few spins of the nuts.

I took pics and drove back, no big deal I just wanted them to tighten it back up, and know what happened.

I've never been yelled at by a service manager for their own mistake before, won't be back again.

Mistakes happen and I usually give people 3 strikes, they earned all 3 strikes in 5 minutes.

And those saying they'd keep the tools, you guys are dicks.

Maybe someone else put it there. I bet a hobo crawled under it and put it there.
