Wonder how many of the members that are suggesting the the OP keep the tool actually use their own tools for a living. It sucks when you realize that you lost something that you use everyday to help you make a living.

Its not like the mechanic did a crappy job, he fixed the problem. Just happened to leave a light hanging in a good spot for 30 miles haha. Last time I checked, dealers still use human hands to fix the vehicles, s*** happens

The OP wasn't the offender, but some of the idiot's that replied to this thread are.

People are quick to point out the mistakes of others while swiftly covering up their own as if they are above being a HUMAN.

It's like watching unreality T.V. shows.

Humans are thieves keeping a found tool is a thief.

Nothing more need be said.

My sycamores leave thousands of leaves behind each fall. The neighbors never protest when I ask to retrieve them.

There are cultures/societies which take a very dim view of thievery either via force or some other manner of acquisition. The punishments meted out in some of those instances aren't pleasant.

Acquisition by error does not equate to ownership, no matter other circumstances (unless it's some sort of barter/trade/contingency deal).

"I'm missing my LED lamp that I need when going beneath. Got two pretty good hooks on it for when I'm working on suspensions and trannys. Need it badly and really would like to have it back. Any help would be appreciated."

Kinda like what lots of folks ask here.

Saying "I would keep it!" is tantamount to saying, "Better keep your doors locked around me!"

Maybe he will double check next time and not make the same mistake again? I've had to swerve to avoid objects launched upwards in the road from tires several times...this VERY EASILY could have been one of those cases.

What tools do you use to make your living?

Answer that and I will try to understand and answer your question.

Don't forget to check Idaho for summer idiocy. We'll get at least 4 or 5 cigs tossed into the 104-degree hay and another couple of dragging trailer chains to spark wildfires in our narrow corridors.

We're 2014 special already with a DC-10 tanker flying daily because some idiot couldn't cook a trout without toasting a few pines. Gotta keep the heat off Sun Valley and the big annual tech conference underway. "Keep that soot off my Gulfstream V!"

And returning the tool will be a helpful reminder and not a costly one for the mechanic.

Yes. We've all done it and are thankful when the tool is found.

Nothing aggravates me more than to lose a tool ... even for 10 minutes if I'm on any kind of build. I have 4 tape measures that I use regularly for different purposes. Everything is on hold until any lost/"forgot where-the-hell-I-put-it" tool is located.

Bet that guy missing the lamp showed up the next day with an "Oh, oh, where did I leave it?"

Then realizing he will have to postpone a bill or a grocery run to replace it.
