I bought my 2009 4x4 truck used from a horse trailer pulling lady. At 188k miles she had the engine replaced. In the 7 months I've owned it I've replaced the windshield, had the tranny fluid and transfer case fluids changed and serviced. I've also flushed the radiator 2x's, but my 2 most expensive repairs were getting the rusty wheel wells fixed and repainted, $800 and having the heater core replaced for another $800 dollars.
My next expenses will be to fix the sporadically leaking radiator hose connection and power steering pressure lines. This is my first truck besides the 2008 Sport Trac I had which U-Haul wouldn't rent me a trailer for. But my close truck friends say that doesn't really count as a truck.

If I were you I would go with a dodge. Seems like a great fit for you.

I remember when they quoted me $1200 to replace the front calipers, rotors, and brake pads. I was in disbelief and did it myself. I used oem on everything except the pads. I bought ceramic pads which were more money. I also replaced the brake lines to the calipers due to suspected degradation. Bought a bleeder kit, fresh fluid, and lube for the slides. When everything was done and spending time during a weekend, I saved $300. In hindsight it wasn't worth the time and hassle.
Both calipers and 2YR/Unlimited Miles warranty from BlueSpringsFordParts.com = $230 Shipped.
Powerstop z36 from Amazon = $225 Shipped.
Motive Power Bleeder from Amazon = $60 Shipped
Ford PM-1-C Dot 3 fluid 36oz = $25
Kevlar Brake line kit (all 4 hoses) from Stage3Motorsports = $160 Shipped.
You should have saved around 500$.

Well, i have a 2010 with 110k on it. Original windshield, original brakes.
Second set of michelin ltx ms2 tires. Change the oil every 5k, tranny fluid every 50k, coolant every 75k, wipers once a year, suck out the PS fluid with a turkey baster every 10k or so and that's it.
Still runs great. 20mpg
Had the tranny bulkhead leak fixed under warranty, the slip yoke bump isn't a big deal to me, and the drivers side rear door harness broke, like everyone else, but knock on wood that's it.

Your next truck
Which foreign truck are you salivating over? Toyota, Nissan? Those Toyota owners think they have a bad-*** truck.

Bought mine used (details in signature line) just over a year ago with 85000 miles. I've since put on almost 15000 miles and have had no issues except the drive line "bump" which I had lubed for $100 at the dealer. Change oil about every 5000mi or so and swapped out the spark plugs a few months ago. Runs like a champ, couldn't be happier.
