Long time lurker needing advice
Hey guys I have lurked this site off and on for years but don't post much. I Was recently in a serious accident and most likely totaled my 2012 FX4. I bought her when I was married but now that I'm single, I can't really justify that kind of money again.
I found a 2009 fx4 with similar features but its got almost 101k miles on it. They are asking 18k for it and it seems in good condition. I can probably get them down to 15-16k. So would you guys think a 6 year old truck with 100k on it worth buying?
It's something like this or switching to a dang SUV for a few years. Soooo help me out.....am I over thinking the dreaded 100k?

Well I'm not sure this will help, but in the last month I bought a 2012 5.0L XLT SuperCab 4x4 with 119K miles from a local used car dealer for $16,999. I really agonized over buying something with that many miles, but the truck looks good, drives good, a local mechanic gave it the thumbs up, and the price was way under the NASD value, so... what's a guy to do? I gulped and just bought it. Now I'm in love and spend my time lurking on this site obsessing over whether I will encounter the dreaded 5.0 engine knock, or rough idle, or power steering failure, or leaking third brake light, or whatever, but I don't regret it (yet, *knocks on wood*).
The main thing that let's me sleep at night though is that I bought it at a good price, so even if I end up dumping some money into it I won't feel I got burned. My advice for whatever it's worth, is to really shop around and not get tunnel vision on any one potential truck until you do. There are a LOT of used F-150's in the world and deals can be had (especially at the end of the month).

So many miles in so few years probably means lots of highway mileage. I wouldn't worry about it.

I'd feel a little more comfortable if it was a 2010.
It seems like the 5.4/6 speed is a bullet proof combination, for 2010.
I hope I'll get rebutted by owner's with successful high miles on a 2009.
Honestly though, the benchmark should be 150,000 miles. Most vehicles reach that milestone easily these days.
Even though (and it shouldn't) the value drops as soon as it turns a 100,000, that's nothing miles wise today.
My 2005 got to 146,000 without batting an eye. If it weren't for tax purposes..I'd still be in that truck. That rig had plenty of life left.

That's what I figured too. It was a leased vehicle out of Alberta Canada. In my imagination it belonged to a gas company exec driving from site to site, some dude named Brad going by the name of his iPhone. I hope he reads this thread!

I bought my 09 f-150 xlt 4x4 at 135k miles for 12.5k.. I had my step father (who is a mechanic) take a look at it. And Said it looked in great shape for the year and miles. I'm at 148k miles on it now and the only issue I had was that I was experiencing shaking (at idle) at around 145k miles. Turned out that it needed the spark plugs replaced. So I swapped in 8 new plugs and it starts up perfectly now. That was 3-4k miles ago and Haven't had any issues. (Knock on wood)
Personally if it's in good condition (especially being an Fx4) I would snag it up. The 5.4 is a strong engine and with the 09+ Models I'd say there still pretty modern. With Proper maintenance you should be able to get 300k out of that truck if not a little more.

I bought a 97 with 125,000 and drove to 285,000 with no major issues. I bought an 05 with 130,000 and traded it in with 265,000. It still ran great and didn't uses any oil between changes. Both had the 4.6. I have no experience with the 5.4.

I'd definitely check the car fax (not that everything is always recorded) and see if there is a service history with the truck. Maybe the original owner took good care of it. Just a thought, may help put your mind at ease. A good run through by a mechanic is also a plus as previously stated.

Did you get a good chance to talk to the owner? If he did all the work himself (like a lot of us on here do), like darrenfx4 said, it might not be on the Carfax. The mechanic run-through will give you a better idea of if it's good or not. Hell, if you have the money, do both (Carfax and inspection).
