I just traded my 08 silverado ext cab with the 4.8l for an XLT EB Super Crew and its night and day on the ride and interior. Of course the power difference is awesome. I get around 23 on the highway so far. I never test drove the 5.0 so i cant compare. I was always a chevy fan til my brother let me drive his FX4 crew EB and i fell in love and im not looking back. I got 11000 of sticker for a 2012 with chrome package.

I wouldn't go with the EB for fuel economy reasons only. You will be more satisfied going with the EB for it's low end power over the 5.0 than it's fuel mileage. The 5.0 gets pretty damn good fuel mileage. Coming from your last truck, either engine (even the 3.7L) will be a major upgrade in power along with the trucks capability. Most 5.0 owners here say they love the sound of the stock V8 exhaust note and the power it has after 3,000rpm. I can speak from experience in saying that a the 5.0 is a beast at WOT being slightly slower than a like for like cab and gear ratio EB. The deference in acceleration is barely if even at all noticeable if you did a back to back WOT test drives of both to the point they would almost feel the same. Where the two engines differ is below 3,000 rpm and how much throttle is needed with normal driving. The 5.0 has more power below 3,000 rpm compared to most other N/A engines of it's size or slightly bigger, but has no where near the pulling power the EB has in this area of the power band with over a 100lb-ft difference in torque at the wheels between 2,500 and 3,000rpm. Add a tuner and that difference will easily jump to over 200lb-ft difference at those rpm ranges. Test drive both and just keep in mind what you want out of a truck and where you usually drive. Don't go for one over the other for their mpgs because they are really close to the point that it would take you years to recoup any extra money spent on the EB.

Like everyone said, FX vs XLT/Lariat is just a question of chrome vs no chrome. Chose what you like better. Theres also the flow through consol and floor shifter to consider on the FX package, but you can get that in the Lariat as well.

Personally I have a White Screw FX2 with the 5.0 and wouldn't trade it for any other variation (except the FX4, if I ever had the need for 4x4). Right now I get 15.5-15.8 in town and 21.5 on the highway, and thats with only 1800 miles on it. I'm hoping that goes up a little once the motor gets fully broken in. It's got plenty of power from a dead stop and will do 50-80 mph REALLY fast (which is what Im more worried about for passing on 2-lane roads around here).

It also sounds AWESOME! Even by V8 standards it sounds good. Initially I was gonna put after market exhaust on it as soon as I got it, but the stock sound has impressed me enough that I haven't touched it yet. Still considering it, but not in any hurry now.

As for the color, my previous truck was the Midnight Blue Metallic that was offered on the 2003 F150 and it was impossible to keep clean. Up to the day I traded it I could wash it and it would look just as good as it did the day I bought it, but 2 days later it was filthy again. The white, on the other hand, still looks the same as when I got it and I haven't washed it in a month. Where I'm at white is definitely the color to go for if you're looking for easy upkeep.

I've always been a Ford guy, but I drove Chevy's and Tundras leading up to getting my F150 just be sure I was making the right decision. The Fords blow the Chevys away under the hood and blow the Tundras away on interior and mpg. Pretty much can't go wrong with an F150 at this point, IMO.

Nice lookin GMC. As someone else mentioned, test drive them both and you'll probably like the Ford.

I didn't read the post where it was mention but probably referring to Wide Open Throttle.

Yes, I was referring to Wide Open Throttle or the "pedal all the way to the floor" scenario.

I can't get enough of the 5.0....I look forward to it every time I drive one...so smooth and the real world mileage beats the EB. Go for the 5.0...sick engine. The EB is fast, but once you settle into it and eventually take your foot out of it...mine has some bad turbo lag and it falls flat sometimes.

Not that I have any regrets...but try both out to see which one you like best.

ive only used the 4wd a handful of times in the 8yrs ive owned it. Mostly when i was younger and mudding was a common occurrence. Ive probably used it 10x in the past 3yrs of ownership. Just no real use for it anymore and maintenance adds up (bj's, wheel bearings, transfer case fluid, etc.)

This truck has a EFI Live tune and after having this one tuned i will never have an untuned truck whether its for performance or economy. Best bang for the buck IMO. It will really come down to what i can find a good deal on when it comes to 5.0 vs EB. I don't tow that often, only if i haul a buddies trailer/boat which is 4-5x year so the 5.0 would do me fine there. The EB is more or less for the turbo factor, would love to have boost. Just the gear ratio is what i'd like to make sure i get right. More than likely will play with the suspension, whether it be up or down. If up, 3.55 atleast would be ideal for a ~33" tire if not 3.73. Would probably level the rear while its on stock tires and then once it needs new tires i would put a small level on it with 305/55 or the like.

As far as paint vs chrome. I have a guy who does paint for cheap for handles/bumpers would be a cheap mod on an xlt. But the headlights/taillights and interior of the FX package just *****s on the xlt trucks. I added a console in my GMC for this reason. I would love having the center console and floor shift.
Ignot Silver is my #1 choice.
