Same here, had 2 new Tahoes, 1 new Silverado, 1 Yukon, 1 H3 Alpha Hummer with the 5.3L. I think they had more intake noise WOT, but no faster, no better towing. Also had piston noise on cold start for a few minutes. Also had a Denali with 6.2L gas that was very fast. Just had so many rattles, it drove me crazy on our dirt road. my 2 cents

Default Comparisons

Tonite, a buddy and I were comparing gas milage, he has a 09 5.3L Sierra with the drop down cylinder and I have the 5.4 2010. roughly similiar specs otherwise. His gas milage is marginally better but he had 2 computer replacements in 1 yr and 2 rentals that he had to pay for. He has not saved anything. His dealership had the nerve to tell him that the computer won't be covered under warranty anymore. He is already looking to unload his truck and get a Ford.

Yep, my brother drives an '08 Tahoe. Fun to drive, but I would never consider trading mine out for one... $35k for my truck or $50k for his? Well, we all know the merits of a pickup vs SUV, so he's looking to trade in for an F-150. His truck goes in about every 6 months with another problem, just recently his 4x4 died and it took a week to get that fixed. I haven't had a single issue yet... Ford won in my family.

I drive a 2010 Silverado at work 5.3 extcab 4x4 with 8 foot box. The gas mileage sucks compared to my 2010 Screw FX4. 5.3 gotta lotta noise, but there isn't any more pull in it than my FX4.
Prior to that I drove a 07 5.7 hemi 4 door 4x4 for work and that was comparable to the 5.3, but that was a gas pig as well.
I know I own a F150 (third actually) and I am supposed to say good things, but I have driven GM, Dodge and Ford....a lot. And bang for my buck its Ford all the way.

i've always put it this way.

the cam profiles between the two engines does give the 5.3 a better around town feel. idle to 2k I'm sure it's putting out a little more power than a 5.4. I personally dislike how weak the 5.4 feels just putting around.

but, the OHC allows the motor to rev more freely, and the cam profile really makes the power curve come alive around 2k rpm. I tend to roll on the throttle after I'm going 20mph or so.. I'll take the 5.4 any day of the week.
