Cool Locking Fuel Plug for capless 2009 Lariat F150

PartsCheap had it on sale for $16.49 today and I bought in online Weds 24 June 2009. With the price of gas so high you need this protection. You can definitely siphon gas out, go try it.

So much for the no-cap idea from Ford.

I just got the UPS email notification from PartsCheap, that my plug will be at my doorstep tomorrow !!!

Still amazed that my local Ford dealer could not come up with it at all in their computer.

PartsCheap, is a large Ford dealer about three hours away from me, in another city.

Does this cap come with a seperate key, or can it be set to use the ignition key?

Good question...I know it comes with its own key; if it can be keyed to the ignition key, same as the spare tire lock, this remains to be seen??

Since it is a Ford part, it is possible this can be done, but maybe the locking mechanism is not the same, or too small for the ignition key.

Will advise when mine arrives, if another member does not have this info sooner.

I don't think this is possible as the plug is not very deep. The key that comes with it is more around the size of a typical padlock key (but double sided, so that you can insert it in either orientation). Also when you unlock the plug, the key is not removable. It can only be removed in the locked position.

It sure would have been a good idea for Ford to place some sort of hose blocker in the filler pipe so a siphon hose couldn't get into the tank. A locking cap may provoke some low life to puncture the tank instead. If we did like the Arab culture and cut the hand off of a thief, we wouldn't have this problem.

Received my fuel tank plug via UPS today from partscheap.com.

It has two keys, and not the same as the ignition key.

It is not very large, and just slips into the upper end of the fill hole, snugging up against the metal flap.

Again, this is not really a locking gas tank cap, in the more common sense, it is a 'plug'. Only available through Ford right now, but later more aftermarket types my mfg the part.

Great cutomer service from partscheap.com

Ford part # 8U5Z-9C268-B (PLUG)

Short of explosives, nothing is going to stop a determined thief. I'd rather have my tank siphoned than have a hole drilled into it.

The locking fuel plug is very easy to remove with a slide hammer BTW. However at least its some sort of deterrent.
