Default Locking Fuel Plug for 2009 F150

Last night, someone 'borrowed' about 15 gals of gas from my new truck.

I did some research today and found this Ford part, a locking fuel plug, which is designed for the new '09 F150 capless fuel tank.

Product Code: 8U5Z-9C268-B-F509

Retail about $19.99

Yeah it's been around a while. The new design doesn't really make gas theft any easier but the fuel plug lock will help quite a bit.

Wasn't the capless system was suppose to be anti-siphon?

How would it be anti-syphon? You see they give you a regular funnel to use for gas from a gas can. No matter how special ford thinks their funnel is, it is still a regular funnel just like any other one.

No holes, leaks etc.

Filled the tank last night, for a run to San Francisco this a.m.; and in the morning noticed the miles to empty reading was way off of what it was last night when I parked the truck (not garaged). Then looked at the fuel gage and found it close to the 1/2 mark (36 gal tank).

Went to the closest gas station and added 15.2 gals.

And yes, that little plastic filler they give you under the rear seat, can be had very easily and/or duplicated with many other type plastic funnels.

Will pick up my locking plug on Monday at my closest Ford dealer.

Gas now about $2.99 p/gal in my area.

Interesting.....

I went to my local (very large and where I bought my truck) Ford dealer this a.m. and they could not find the part on their computer!? I was surprised by this info.

I came home and ordered it online from partscheap.com, which is connected with a very large auto dealership in Chico, Ca. That is where the photo and part number came from in my previous post.

UPS should be only two days.
