I have a 2014 FX4 and I took it to get the bed done with Line X today.
When I picked it up the tailgate wasn't done. The owner said it will not latch correctly if he sprays it.

I have the stripper pole so the majority of the gate is covered with plastic. However, for the life of me looking at it in the garage tonight the only area I see a potential problem is with the bumpers on the top of the box where it meets the tailgate. If they sprayed the gate wouldn't just trimming the bumpers if it didn't close well solve any closure problems?

That is a very thin coat. I can't imagine that closing your tailgate would be a problem. You pretty much need to get that tailgate coated.

Most op that have the step, remove the stripper pole and put in the blank panel in its place. Then they have the tailgate line x'd.

Did some searching around playing a little bit more with the search vocabulary and see that some others on here with the stripper pole and line x places didn't do their tailgates either.

When I did the spray in liners at the ford dealer, if you had the step gate, it DID NOT get sprayed. Unless you did the pole delete as previously mentioned

My Line-X guy removed the plastic trim and sprayed the tailgate, then put the trim back on. I have the tailgate step with stripper pole. Tailgate closes just fine.

Although I call mine the old man step, mine doesn't have any spray on the tailgate either.

mine didn't get sprayed either. i have the stripper pole and the step too. I didn't care personally, but interesting now to hear reasons why.

MY truck came with the factory spray in liner, it also came with the stripper pole and the tailgate was not sprayed. In order to make the deal for the purchase of the truck I had the pay to have the tailgate sprayed after I purchased a cover and removed the pole.

I just removed the stripper pole and plastic and bought a metal plate from dealer that covers hole from stripper pole then had it line-x. Glad the tailgate is flat too.
