Limited slip diff problems?
I have a 2010 F 150 crew cab. At 17,000 mi I had a vibration in the rear end when turning from a stop, they ended up saying the clutch packs were bad in the limited slip and replaced it. Now at 53,000 mi I have the same issue again and replacing again. Only thing different this time I have slightly taller tires @ 275/70/18, think this is the size. Anyone else have these problems? Also the parts are back ordered for a month.

Do you have the proper fluid in the diff? You have to have one that's LSD friendly with the right friction modifiers. Do you change your fluid regularly or tow regularly? Still, you shouldn't be eating clutches that quickly. Also do you do many burnouts lol?

I have a similar issue, it isn't bad though. They told me it was a common problem and the parts were on back order so they didn't fix it. That was about 40k miles ago and I still haven't fixed it. Both tires still spin. If anything I think it's stronger now, as in the clutches don't slip as much which is fine by me!

I only tow my snowmobile trailer a couple times a year, and I got the burn out stuff out of my system,mostly. It is not fixed yet, still driving till my parts come in. I first brought it to the dealer I bought it from and it says on the work order they put in the right fluid. This time I brought it to another dealer.

Rear diff clutch plates should never chatter unless the unit has been really abused, or...... the wrong fluid was used.
A properly set up and properly lubed clutch-type LSD should be real strong for about 5-10k miles; then it should just quietly get less and less 'grabby'. But they should never chatter. (no matter WHAT the dealer says).
*An old trick to prepping the clutches for install is to soak them over night in tranny fluid. Then install as prescribed. This will aid proper break-in and make the plates last longer. - most dealers do not take this step.
*You might also supply your own oil (of choice) for them to install. Make sure you get some good stuff like Redline, e.g. Limited Slip formula.
Heck, if you were close by, *I'd* do it for you at a discount...

I've never had a ford "limited slip" last more than 36k miles before they became useless without having to add more friction modifier. chattering is a sign that moisture has gotten into the rear diff somehow, even a SMALL amount of water will make them chatter.

I was having the same problem in my 2005 f150. I knew I wanted to move up to a new 2013 so I never fixed it. Look at getting a Detroit true trac. It acts like a limited slip but it does not use any clutches. They guarantee it not to wear out for the life of the truck. You should look at installing one of those (it will cost a little more) but you will never have to worry about the clutch packs going out ever 15,000 miles.

I'm in the same boat as you. I have a 2010 scab xlt 4x4 and had the clutch packs replaced at about 45,000. Now I am at 59,000 and I have been feeling the same symptoms getting worse for a while now. If I can't get more than 10-15,000 miles out of a clutch pack then I am not going to be happy.

My 2010 developed a small chatter at about 30k, dealer wouldn't fix it, said parts were back ordered. I never did fix it and have 67k now, it's never gotten worse and still leaves two black marks so I'm not worried about it.
