Default Light Truck vs SUV tires for F-150

I have a 2013 F-150 FX4, Screw, 157" WB, with 20" tires on order. I'd like to replace the tires soon after I get the truck with some more capable All-Terrain tires. I really would like to avoid lifting the truck or even leveling it. I'd like to purchase Cooper Discoverer AT3 tires for it, but have some questions concerning going with "SUV" tires vs. Light Truck tires.

The Cooper Discoverer AT3's come in the following sizes:

Light Truck: 275/65R20 (34" diameter - would require a lift or tall level)
305/55R20 (33.33" diameter, but I'd prefer not to go wider than the stock 275)

SUV: 275/55R20 (stock size)
275/60R20 (33", but seems from forum members it would fit without a level)

My question is - is it an issue to have "SUV" tires on the F-150 rather than "Light Truck" tires?

Idk much about the differences in a LT or SUV tire, but use the tire rating to decide if it works for the type of driving and loads.

Tire rating info chart:

A LT or light truck tire is 8 or 10 ply and D or E rated. These tires are built stronger and usually rougher riding then the P rated or passenger type tires. LT tires are great if you do any towing, hauling heavy load's or want an offroad tire then withstand some abuse. Most people can get by with a P rated tire but it seem's most people on this forum like the LT tires for aggressive look's and the extra toughness they give for offroading. A 275x60x20 (33x11) would fit on a 4x4 at stock height and still give decent fuel economy and look better filling up the wheelwell's.

You won't have any issues, in fact the stock pirelli's are a P rated tire. I've had Nitto terra grapplers in P275/60R20 for over a year and 30K km and have been very happy. They ride much better than the stockers as well. Check out my garage for pics

Also the 275/65r20s will fit without a level, do a search there are many people doing it

Thanks everyone. I did try searching through all the old threads but didn't see this specifically addressed. I'm also surprised that 275/65R20 tires would fit on a stock FX4 without rubbing. That's the way I'd prefer to go since the LT tires would add more protection from rocks and such while I'm driving in the fire roads of the Colorado Rockies.

The problem I suspect I'll have now is finding a shop that will install 275/65 or even 275/60 tires on my truck. Most seem to be very **** about only putting oem sizes on.

They would really have to be **** by not putting a 275x60x20 on. This is only a 33x11 tire and is a stock tire for a Nissan Armada. Good tire size but most are only P rated.

You will never approach the LT weight ratings with an F150 . You will max out the rear axel,or GAWR way before getting to the tire rating. If you need a heavier rating, look up XL rated tires. Less $ than LT, longer lasting, better ride.
