License Plate Light

Once again in what seems the never ending trip to the dealer to identify the fault of the day I made another trip. In this case the vacuum brake assist was shot so $700 later I'm ready to leave. Then I realize the inspection is up. but the dealer identifies a license plate light issue. apparently the sockets and harness is corroded, who knew. Well the quoted price for repair is $285... Ouch!!!!! It's a 2012 XLT. Anyone with any experience in this realm. I'd like to get the harness and take care of this myself... Looking for some advice on complexity and where to order the harness and any other replacement parts.

that is not unheard of, i stock both the tag light assembly and the pigtail at the dealership. its only a 2 wire connector and the tag light snaps right in. Do you know how far the corrosion went up the wire?

pretty simple task if you can do basic wiring. i just bought pigtail from dealer & wired up myself

$285 for a light and some wiring? Does it come with a Costco sized container of vasaline?

I don't know how bad yours is but my 2014 had a corroded license plate lamp assembly and it cost me $30 CDN on Amazon and my own two hands to fix it.

I've had mine go out a few times due to corrosion and cleaned it up with a scotch pad and a new bulb coated in Dielectric grease. No corrosion since about two years ago.
