i paid $400 for the entire deal - was fine with it.

yes, if i had nickle and dimed it i could have gotten it a little cheaper. but i supported a local shop, and they made a reasonable profit.

the kit they sold me retails for $180 (pro comp, high quality stuff) and they charge $100 for an alignment. At their labor rate of $85/hr they charged under 1.5 hours, and i'm sure it took them that long.

yes, i could have bought the hell bent steel and done it myself in the driveway....however, i was too busy on the weekends racing in the black jack enduro series on my yamaha to spend it busting up my knuckles in the driveway to save a few bucks. if i wanted to save a few bucks, i wouldn't be in a 2011 fx4 either.

Yeah I overpaid a little at $300 just to have it done by someone who knew WTF they were doing. Tough call.

^ I think it would be pretty hard to **** up a leveling kit install. Anyone know if doing it yourself would affect the ford warranty? When I bought my truck I was told that if I get any work done outside the dealership I have to save all my receipts so they know it was done by a professional in case there's any damage in the future. Would doing it yourself void the warranty on the suspension components?

doing it period, professional or not, is going to void the warranty on your front end components (both chassis and suspension)

It took me more than an hour to install, it was about 3 hours, but if i had to do it over and know now what needs to be done it should take about 1.5 hours. So for someone who hasn't done one it's not the easiest to do, and if you don't have a big socket set, a couple of jacks and stands you will be screwed. My 04 was way easier to install, the newer ones suck.

Ya, did the job myself, but you must factor in alignment, so my HBS ($75) plus alignment ($50) was my total outlay. Even if this type of mod "might" not affect your alignment too much, do you want to risk prematurely wearing out a set of $330 each (Nitto Terra 33's) tires?

Also assuming you already have the tools (which I did). 33mm socket for axle nut might not be in everyone's toolbox. And all other fasteners need deep well sockets to really get them off without rounding corners.

Installed an AS 2.5" in my driveway, a little over an hour. Kit was 80.00 shipping included. Drove the truck 30 miles before align, no issues. Prior to alignment, it was barely out of spec. Toe only. Align. was 69.00. You do the math. If you don't want to the work yourself, you should expect to pay 200.00 to 400.00. Shop around.
