I have built paddles to match boats, and a lot of folks like wooden canoe paddles and Greenland style kayak paddles. I still use my lightweight I have had for over 10 years. I can paddle all day with it, make good speed, and brace well.

Best part about it? NO maintenance costs!

Thanks! I found some plans for a Wee Lassie canoe 30 years ago. I built many of strips, but these are marine grade Okume 3mm plywood. I can build a 13 footer of strips at just over 24 lbs. using Okume and sheathed inside and out with fiberglass and epoxy, I can get these down to under 20 lbs.
I'm down to 195lbs now, but even at 220lbs I could paddle one pretty effortlessly.

Exactly why I have been looking at getting a kayak instead of a boat.
