I really hope no one takes this post the wrong way. (Such as I'm a dick, or a know it all haha!!)

But I'm just curious as to why everyone calls this color race red? I too have/had this color on my '04 lariat and '10 STX. But I'm a painter at a body shop...and as long as I have painted, this color, Ford code E4, I have known as Vermillion red. Does the dealer/salesmen call it race red?

Valid Question! "Race Red" is a term given by Ford rather than a made up term. When I was buying my truck they gave me a sheet with all the color combos and such. From what I remember, Race Red replaced "Torch Red". I believe I saw Vermillion, but It was a color similar to the "candy red" or metallic red color.

I cant remember what "Race Red" replaced exactly, but I specifically remember the color being named "Race Red". I think its just a name change throughout the years possibly. But i was sold on it! lol I hope I helped.

Haha! thanks for taking the post how i meant it!!! The other poster posted the sticker that says race red. So forgive my ignorance...as ive bought all my trucks slightly used. And have never seen the sticker on them.

But again...ive been painting for 15 years. Ive used every paint manufacturer, such as PPG, Spies Hecker, Standox,DuPont, you name it. And they all refer to it as Vermillion.

I wasn't trying to come across as an ***-or anything, just showing that Ford has actually named the color that. I was a bit surprised when I first saw it called that myself.

Same here ... just posting to show it said race red on my window sticker, as well. I had a red trans am which I believe Pontiac called it a fire engine red. When I saw my truck advertised as 'race red', I thought it was ironic Ford called it that. Now, I'm glad they did.

Thanks for everyone's input here. I'll install the K&N CAI this weekend and will get some pics of the engine bay postred up.
