Default Nitto Trail Grapplers

I am also running trail grapplers and am somewhat unhappy with them for 3 reasons: 1. Harsh ride 2. Poor gas mileage 3. Too much road noise.

Now, if I used my truck predominantly off-road I think they would be great. A recent trip up a few West Virginia mountains confirmed that.

I am contemplating going from the 305-55-20 Nitto to Michelin 285-55-20 AT-2 tires. Like you, it would cost me about $500. I don't like that but believe the tires would save me more than that in fuel costs in one year and I wouldn't have to put up with the noise and harsh ride.

The road noise is so loud that I can't hear my turbos whine. Haven't made up on changing them for sure yet.

Have you considered Michelin over the Good Year Duratracs? The price is about the same. I have had better luck with Michelin's and a better ride than Good Year or BF Goodrich.

Try the toyo mts. Absolutely awesome!!! Low road noise(still a mud tire), great ride, and great off road. I love mine!!

Not for nothing but what do people think when they put on big heavy MT's for highway driving? To me it's common sense that they will be heavy, loud, and will zap the mileage.

Yeah, some people's kids need to get over it. My Mickey Thompson Baja's AT's are not quiet but tolerable. You want big sweet looming tires then your going to hear them no matter what the tire.

You're the owner of Auto-Solutions, right? I had a magnaflow muffler installed there. Is this your next project?

I need to come check out your place. I don't live far from you and I'm wanting to level my truck soon.

I went from trails to duratracs and there is a world of difference in noise, weight, and ride. I haven't tried the toyo mt, but I know they are heavier than the duratracs. They have been the best mud/at tire I have ever owned.

I wouldn't ever use an MT for lack of me needing them. But my buddy has some on his 2009 Sierra and while a little noisy at first (and they floated a lot) they actually aren't that bad after a couple thousand miles. I've had to drive it before and it's not too awful for a MT.
