Each to their own.
WOW dude your the reason people put the stereotype on my friends who live in a gated community with comments like that. Maybe you should get out to some nice campgrounds and tell the people with the $250000 motor homes your feelings. There are a lot of nice people well off or of modest means that enjoy camping and want their kids to learn about the outdoors and the fun associated with it. Not just the inside of a plush hotel with the indoor pool.

Well... A big motorhome.... Is just that.

A home with a motor.

Personally, if i had a camping trailer or a big motorhome, it would be year round.

As for trying to teach a kid How to camp, i Cant justify 250 000 dollar motorhome to teach a kid How to sleep in a tent.

A bit of an exaggeration maybe, but not by much. Last time I went camping with a church group the mexicans camping next to us blasted spanish music and shot their guns all night long. Never again.
Never understood people not being able to understand live and let live.. the world would be such a better place without attitudes like this.
Congrats on your comfortable home though. Pretty arrogant statement about the security gate in your neighborhood, you sure aren't modest are you ?

Half drunk is better than full drunk though, right ? Although I agree, most people are pretty annoying when drunk.
How do yo know they were mexicans, they were speaking spanish so you just assumed, right ?
And your first mistake was hanging out with a church group.

The point is just that, you are not at your home! You are out seeing the country and exploring places. There are places in this country with amazing sites with no 5 star hotels near by. I love that my kids get to do and see so much. Yes you could do that in a tent but if you could have some comforts of home then why not? By your statement, you have not been in many trailers or MH's as there are some big nice ones with multiple ROOMS inside. Some even have washer and dryers.

Sounds like you had a bad expirence on your outing. There are groups that like to party and I research the camp grounds before so I am not put in that situation. You would probably be comfortable in the campgrounds with the 55 and older rule that also has the less than 10 year old RV rule. These are usually gated too.

It is a shame that you will miss out but it sounds as if you are happy being holed up in your spacious house in your gated community.

Wow.

This was the exact reation I wanted to get from you guys with my comment.

Ok, not really. Just an observation when I go camping which is usually on my motorcycle or during offroad moto events (enduros and dual sports).

There's no need for personal attacks. I get that it's more comfortable with trailers and motorhomes but I thought this was a camping thread and not a trailer/motorhome thread.

Most campsites I've stayed in have a 10pm quiet rule and rarely run into sites where they're partying with loud music. There's also campsites that rent out cabins if you want a little more comfort and almost all have showers/electricty/running water.

What I like most about camping is hanging out with friends around a campfire, shooting the chit and drinking. I used to be a boyscout and camped a lot when I was younger and only recently, in the last 5 yrs or so, started tent camping again while traveling on my motorcycle. Canada is really big on trailer/motorhome camping and there's tons of campsites in Canada. I've met some of the nicest people camping all over the NE and Canada.

I think it was more for the Eye surgeon! lol

I love it for all the reasons you mentioned!

Just a few weeks ago about 15 of us did a weekend motorcycle ride out to Canaan valley. Most were street but a few were on street legal offroad bikes and did a combination of forest roads and street. They do the Shenandoah 500 so they know it well. We never to interstate the whole weekend!

I was supposed to do Shenandoah 500 last year but the guys I was going with all backed out at the last minute.

I do a lot less offroad on my big bike (KTM 950) than I used to but I did an awesome trip up to Labrador City in Canada a few years ago with a couple of friends. We camped 9 out of 11 nights on our trip and met the nicest people when we stayed at campgrounds. A couple of nights we didn't have a choice and camped in the woods which was still awesome.

Somewhere in Canada.

Minor roadside repairs just outside Montreal.

Brand new at the start of the trip. Still had a few miles left.

You don't need a 250000 MH to teach kids that was for mr gated community. There are all types of campers from a bag camper to tent to TT to MH. some cook over the fire some use a charcoal grill and some use gas. It takes all kinds but it's a great learning experience for all who get involved
