Something i didnt like.

The XL has a 70/30 split window, same method, but Its stronger, and to me, will withstand more abuse.

last month i orded a leer 100XL for my 2010 screw with a 5.5 box.

i have a dog, who spends most of her time outside, but sleeps inside at night.

anyways, when i was picking a canopy, i was picking the leer, a raider, and ARE.

i picked the leer, for the service, realiablility, and other reasons. my last canopy was on my 2002 dakota. it was a base model and had the 50/50 side tinted windows, with aluminum frame rear window with two twist locks. in 2005, my neighbours lawnmower thew a rock and took out one of my side windows... $140 after tax to repair. but, on the side windows the black paint was peeling. it was pretty noticable because the truck was dodge's version of "sterling grey" and it was sport model with dark grey all over as interior. i had my dog in the back of that truck when i would go around town. anyways, i'd open one window 2/3's the way, but only to help with the air circulation. btw, i lived in a town where it was 38C in the shade with a slight breeze.

in both trucks, i put a big piece of scrap carpet down so my dog didn't cook her paws on the spray in liner, and i was always wanting to try and think of something better for her, but couldn't ever figure something out.

but, i've got that all fixed now.....

with the leer 100XL, i got a few options that the privious owner on my dak didn't have as options.

1) full removable slider cab window
2) tinted windows (70/30 split)
3) thule rails, no full rack tho (saved $450 until i find lights i want to mount on a MOAB basket.
4) kept the AA battery flip switch light
5) 3 plug 12v hub... mounts driver side on the canopy near the "J" clamp.

now, i also went to walmart and got a few extras to save myself money. these are things that i truly love too.

6) 2 12v fans that plug into the 12v plugs. gonna mount them in the windows. tested em out prior to buying them.
7) 12v male to female extension cord for the fan to go on the other side of the canopy. (mounting up and over the hinges)
8) 2 packs of high performance LED lights 24 inches each. while i like the looks of the ones the other member installed, i don't have my canopy lined with carpet because i don't want to have the wet dog smell in it. (just use a brush with car soap, and rince with garden hose)

as for camping and rain.... i am 6'1" with the 5.5 box, i know i'll be angled a bit, but i can also sleep comfortably on the floor in the screw too and the dog can sleep in the box.

the fit of the leer, actually goes right over your factory black plastic rails and you won't notice that they're there.

and if they screw up the PTM, i'll get a fuel cap for the truck so i can have it perfected... after the camping trip.
Very nice. Thanks.

The 100 XL like yours is where i'm leaning. (removable slider, 70/30, Thule rails)

So, 12V fans for hot days...good idea.

Do you have any pictures?

Not yet Larry. My canopy should be arriving this Friday, which means some time next week i will be installing it.

As the other poster, i like The LED light bars, but since the first purpose of my canopy is to protect my dog, and then a camper for me. (i scored a truckbed air matteress for 60% off yesterday and just waking up on it.)

I will have pics up asap.

After picking up the 249$ truck bed for $75 after tax, i came out to see a woman and her kids in their truck with a "nomad 2" canopy. And it had a cargo rack on it. I talked to the lady for a while about it and was pretty happy that i just ordered the rails on the canopy and not the full rack. I dont want to get the rack just yet, but when i was ordering it, opting for just the rails was 250, and the full rack was 600. So it dropped a Good chunk off the rack.

As for options on the canopy.

Keyless entry (power locks)
Tinted windows
Dropdown/removable slider cab window
12v 3plug hub
Cargo rails, rails Only.

While the canopy comes with a AA battery powered light, my plan is to mount the LED's to a toggle switch and splice it in at the 12v plugs(since the 12v plug is going to be hardwired to the battery) and then if it doesnt come with a fuse off the battery, i will install one.

Since the canopy has Keyless entry, once they wire it, at a later date, i am also planning on doing the locking tailgate mod, but tapping into the Keyless system from the canopy so if someone punches out that expensive rear door, they still wont steal the tailgate.

As for camping too... My truck didnt come with a power slider window, which is 900 installed. Its on my to do list, and Thats why i got the removable slider now.

Keep in mind, i paid 3100 for the canopy in central Alberta. While Im pretty sure i could have gotten it for less somewhere else, i would rather pay a few bucks for a great relationship with a dealer, and save money for me and my friends for discounts in the future.

Thanks!

Just took another long trip to Pittsburgh and we hit some bad storms on the way home all of our stuff was nice and dry. One of the best additions to my truck as our official travel vehicle.

I've had the leer 100 XL and the 100 XQ, I've also had the ARE that is the same as the XL and the century that is the same as the XL I have had a few others but they were junk. Snug top looks very nice and I have heard good things about them but they are not in the chicago area. The XQ gives it the expedition look IMO if I was getting the XL style I would probably opt for the century it is owned and operated by leer and is usually a few hundred less than leer and for sure a lot less than ARE I don't think the extra money for the AREs are worth it even tho they are an excellent product. The XQ is the most unique cap on the market IMO. Now I have to get mine to the painter because I just picked up a black fx4 EB a few weeks back and my 10 was dark blue pearl. Good luck and if you think you want the roof rack anytime down the road order it from the factory cuz I have been told if you add it on yourself later it is not covered by warranty and could possibly void your paint coverage as well. Not sure if this is true but thought I would throw that out there

I was told the same thing man... Even here in central Alberta.

So i got the rails installed, and will get a rack at another date.

I agree with you on the XQ excursion looks, but if i had a f250 or f350, i would have gotten an XQ.

But since i got a 150 screw and a 5.5 box, i went for the XL.

As for options etc... Its just best for a guy to not try to scrimp and save. Get what you want, dont think twice, slap it on and enjoy it.

If you start to hum and haw about this and that, Youll Only mess yourself over and end up on here wishing you had done it.

Its one of those things that you in your heart knows what you will need, and you gotta not listen to the wife complaining.

Once she says yes you can have a canopy, you reply... Even if Its 5000 bucks?

Then she is rather going to complain, or she is not going to care.

IMO lol

Like stated above, there is a crank on the inside of the cap that you twist open.
Here is a pic of the window crank and the open widow.
I liked the full length of the windows being open. It's closed at the top and opens to about 3-4" at the bottom. This prevents rain from entering. I've traveled through some severe storms with them open and nothing got wet inside.

I camp a lot and travel 1-3 miles on gravel (and dust in the summer) roads. I haven't had any real issues with dust... With that said, I am always moving forward and not off roading so I am not stirring up much of the road.

Been driving through some hail storms and had no issues with the finish or windows either.

I hunt and we go to south Dakota for a week or so each year and as I mentioned I have had several caps leer xq the xl century royal and ARE and all get some dust running the roads at 60 mph over time but that has been with every one of them.
