This is a copy of an entry I made in another thread...same subject matter.

How to get rich... Buy a boat load of LED headlights from China. Sell them to people who were either too cheap or could not afford the real LEDs from factory. Make them (buyers) believe they are just as good as factory units with halogen housings.

There is a reason that factory LEDs and HIDs cost what they do. Don't you think if it was as easy and cheap as some make it out to be that Ford would do the same?

Famous last words..."they look and work fine".

They always do ...from the drivers seat! How about to oncoming traffic?

My advice...do it right or not at all.
Save your money! If you have halogen lights, buy a good quality halogen bulb.

This is for illustration and comparison. I have a 2016 Interceptor SUV that has the factory led headlight low beam and halogen high beam. Ford clearly designed the reflector for the led different from the halogen. Two different types of bulbs, two different housing designs. The led is side firing into the reflector that directs the beam forward. A few pics for reference....

I don't think anyone is arguing about correct bulbs in correct housings. What people are trying / seeing is that there is some gray area where some of these aftermarket bulbs are performing alright in some of these halogen housings. Those same people are fully admitting that it is not an optimal housing to maximize the light, but, it does perform ok (at least better to them than what they had).
Just clarification as I read through this.

But what people aren't realizing is that it's just a visual perception due to the different Kelvin range. LEDs are in the 5500K range whereas halogen is usually in the 4300K range.

The LED is brighter to the eye due to the Kelvin but you lose distance and actual light coverage to the sides. The LEDs are so focused directly in front of vehicle flooding the foreground your pupils constrict due to all the light.

Not to mention the way the LEDs are designed will not mimic a halogen bulb and will scatter the light and have dead spots. This scattering is that car or truck coming at you from another direction blinding you. It's as if they have their brights on. They could very well have their lights aimed per manufacture but the scattered light still blinds people.

So these people will lower the lights to not blind people (or just not care if they do) and then they lose even more distance lighting so now you only have light 10-15' in front if that.

Would you put on an oil filter that's not designed for your motor but it does ok enough because it saves you money? No you wouldn't.

People pay upwards of $40-60,000 for these trucks, they dump thousands into lifts and tires so why cheap out on something that could actually help you?

You get what you pay for!

It's working for them and their taste, so it's fine.

As my grandpappy said, 'whatever makes ya happy!'

I disagree with that when it comes at the expensive of others. Best case scenario you make it uncomfortable for oncoming drivers. Worst case scenario you cause an accident and somebody loses their life. Why? Cause you were cheap and selfish. Why risk something like that?

Just my thoughts.
