Default Leaking torque converter / pump, 3rd try...

Just looked under the truck and once again I see another little drip of tranny fluid on the bell housing. I have taken the truck in 2 times to the dealership to fix the torque converter / pump seal leak and it looks like it's back once again. It is a very slow leak and does not even drip to the ground.

Anyone else having this problem? My truck is a 2012 FX4 with the 5.0 engine.

Is there a TSB for the leak?

Default your leak

there is a bulletin out about this leak. had same problem on a 2011 I had, read about it on this forum [front tranny pump seal], your dealer is able to look this up in their system. Mine never leaked again after it was fixed.

I just bought a 2011 supercab xlt with the 3.7, with 60,000 miles on it 2 weeks ago. drove it from Missouri to California and back on vacation. I noticed the same leak on the trip. I have asked the dealer to look and see if the truck still will qualify for a recall. I love the truck, but I hope I don't get stuck with a very costly repair. I will keep you all posted on what happens. Any advice on how to interact with the dealer would be appreciated. Thanks.

Default interact with dealer

There was not a recall for this problem, sorry. I asked to look under my truck while it was on the lift for an oil change, saw the seepage, showed it to the service manager, he looked up the bulletin number I gave him . Parts had to be ordered, took a week to get parts in and the fix.

There was a TSB for a certain run of dates for 2011 trucks for this exact thing, but I thought it was just a bad run of TC's that they had narrowed it down to. Most were able to just have their converter replaced and it fixed the issue. Others had to have the entire transmission replaced.

I don't think you will find anything for your 2012, but if you want to point the dealer at the TSB for 2011 so they can see what fixes were offered, that might help you.

I'll look into this to see how I can help, Texas2012FX4. What's your truck's current mileage?

We had a similar situation, 3 times in and out and very frustrated...every time new pump seal installed. Finally put the TC in the lathe and spun it...it was .019 out of true. New TC installed and no issues. Did not expect to have a OEM TC out of true, but it was.

Hi Crystal,

Thanks for the reply. The truck mileage is around 66k. I did buy an extended warranty from Mack Haik in Houston, TX. This problem started right after I drove off the lot. My first oil change at the dealership was at around 4k miles and I noticed it then.

I emailed my service rep at the dealership 2 days ago to tell them about the drip I found and have yet to get a response. It would be great if you could help me resolve this issue once and for all. Missing work and Mack Haik forcing me to pay taxes on the rental car is getting old. This will be the 3rd time I have had my truck in their service department for the same issue. Probably need to replace the torque converter.

Thanks.

Reach out to me via PM, Texas2012FX4; I'll loop in your regional customer service manager so they can get this resolved. Be sure to include your full name, best daytime phone number, VIN, mileage, and dealership name/location in your message.
