Default radiator fan replaced and still screaming loud

2013 F150 5.0L went in to shop for routine maintenance to get plugs done because almost at 100 000km. Truck came back and radiator fans are screaming loud and were never like that before. Took back and they changed the fans and the problem is still there. Does not matter if it is hot outside or cold. Seems to only happen when the a/c is on but can happen as soon as you start the truck. Thing is this is NOT normal because I've owned the truck since it was new and it never used to sound like this. Cost $1000 to change fans so kind of want to know what is wrong before I agree to fix more that doesn't fix it!

Did they update the pcm?
is the coolant level right?

My fans are loud when ac is on. It’s fairly normal.

We asked and they said they did not do any updates... but they also fixed a wheel sensor when it was in there. So perhaps when they plugged it in it automatically updates? We have checked the coolant level and it is normal. And this really is not normal because like I said until it went into the shop it did NOT sound like this... and we know what this truck sounded like as we have owned it since it had 50km on it. Also owned other Fords that do not sound like this... daughter owns a 2014 and we also have a 2016 and have an old 2008 5.4L and none of them sound like this.

All it takes is 1 degree rise in temp to cause the fans to go into turbo mode. My truck is the same way and has been as long as I've owned it from new. It's normal.

Ok... so you are saying this is the NEW normal then? Cause like I've said we have owned this truck since it was brand new and it never sounded like this before a couple weeks ago. And it does it even when it's cold out... was 6C here the other evening and the truck was just started up so sitting cold and the fan kicked on to high mode without the truck having ever warmed up. Heck our tandem grain truck in the heat of the summer doesn't even run this loud... so having a hard time with this being the new normal for this truck.

I had this issue several years ago. Ford replaced the fan setup and a fan relay. It is not normal for them to run high all of the time, unless you are in the desert. Normal operation for mine once repair was made is: if extremely hot and high humidity, i hear them a lot,but never 100% of the time. Also, I have parked my truck in the garage, gone out the next morning and they have initially run on high for a few minutes. Right now in Houston, it has been hot with high humidity early this summer, so I am hearing my high fans sooner.

I have also seen and heard lots of other Fords also with the Turbo Fan syndrome. SO unless you are in some extreme constant high heat and humidity, it is not normal for them to run all of the time.

Now having said that, there are some posts here where guys have taken their trucks in and an issue with the ac being improperly charged, was causing the fans to malfunction.

You paid a 1000 dollars, their diagnosis to fix and it did not? you need to be back in their face!

Not in extreme constant heat at all and has been cool here the last few days. We did call them and they said bring it back again... just was really hoping to figure out the issue so it doesn't cost us another $1000 and it isn't fixed.

Tell them to check temp sensors, and A/C pressure sensors with a scan tool. One of these sensors failing and reading high can cause the fan to run at full speed all the time. People often forget to check A/C temp/pressure sensors but they are of leading cause of this issue on Volkswagen and Audi vehicles. I've also seen a few cylinder head temps sensors fail on certain Fords.

Ours does that all summer long but of course it is very hot here in the summer. When it happened in the winter I checked the coolant level, it was low, topped it off and it went away. It still does it all summer but it is hot out...

Default Fan on hi

I noticed mine doing that at 90k miles, and at the time it was winter and 60 degrees. There are 2 speed stages on the fan, and the slow side went out. So, every time the fan kicked on it went straight to high. Not sure what all they replaced but I did have a new cooking fan when I picked the truck up.
