Maybe play their bluff, ask the dealer if they are replacing lead frame or just doing reflash

So what happens if they do the reflash and it still does it? At that point do they replace the lead frame? The proper way before when 11-12’ truck people had issues was replace. Now all of the of the sudden they add 13’ guys the number jumps to 1.5 million and it’s a simple reflash? That’s bull****. Do it right the first time.

There was a transmission reflash recall (or whatever) before, separate from the lead frame recall. So, this makes 3 total.

If they've found a way to control it via software, great.

Hey, mine is included in this one!

Mine and my sister's F150s are included too. I wonder if this would change the strategy number for my pcm since I am tuned. They also are not reimbursing the expenses of repair which sucks.

So this is the same problem that caused the recall for my 2013? In other words this thing is known to **** on it's self while driving and ford's cheap-o solution is to make the PCM a little smarter?

Yup - from what I can gather - the output shaft speed sensor (OSS) located in the lead frame can send random 0 speed values to the TCM/PCM - which causes it to think the transmission output shaft isn't spinning, so it downshifts to 1st gear (since it thinks you are stopped). In addition to this, it can send inaccurate readings for a few seconds causing the transmission to shift down to random gears based on the reading. Example, on my 2013 when the lead frame was going bad, I would get 6-1 downshift, 6-3 downshifts, and sometimes it would start out in 5th gear from a stop, since the OSS was giving incorrect values and the TCM/PCM we're shifting to the appropriate gear based off the OSS reading, but would fix itself a second later.

Now total speculation here:
In order to save money recalling 1.5 million lead frames and replacing them (involves dropping the pan and valve body, and then reassemble and refill transmission fluid) they are changing the programming with this recall to eliminate erratic OSS readings by avoiding one-off readings and forcing the OSS to send multiple readings of it's speed before allowing the transmission to shift. Mine would send a random 0 reading for like a second before returning to a correct reading, causing it shift down and then back up quickly (confirmed by the Ford tech who fixed it) Again, total speculation, but the fix before was to replace the lead frame, and now it's just to adjust the programming for it. I think they all have the potential to be problematic, but the new software should help eliminate erratic one off OSS readings.

Are dealers able to fix the issue or are we still waiting? Mine told me to come back in a month.

My '13 RCSB 5.0 used to do the random downshift. However I've run several different aftermarket tunes after the blower install, and since that time there's been no random transmission downshifting in the last 3 plus years. Currently tuned with HPTuners. I'm not sure how I would go about returning the PCM to stock and then having the reflash done, if it were necessary.

They probably don't have files or instructions on this recall, yet.
