Default Burning smell on a 2013 fx4 eco

I just noticed on my truck a burning smell coming from the rear of the truck after driving it. I looked under the truck to see if I could see or smell where the odor is coming from. The 1st time I noticed I was in a hurry and didn't pay attention to it. I have an appt tomorrow morning to have the dealer check it out. My highway mpg is only around 15 doing the speed limit and 11-12 in the city. These mpg are with me babying the gas, no hard accelerations...
Thoughts? I do really love my truck.

Welcome to the forum. Depending on how new the truck is what you may be smelling is what my Dad used to call "the new burning off". Oils, and things that are on the outside of the exhaust system. As far as the mpg's on your Eco, there are quite a few threads on the subject that you can search. I own a 5.0L, so I'm not the one to comment. I do know these engines need at least 3000 miles of break-in before you see better gas mileage.

Yup, if your truck is new, its likely just some manufacturing oils burning off....as to your mpg, sometimes with the EB, its not about throttle application as much as it is --- how much do your use your brakes? Coasting up to red lights and making every green light at 28 mph is going to generate 18 mpg in town. Accelerating as gently as you can to 40 and getting stopped at every light is going to give you 12 mpg.
The EB is a 214 cubic inch engine trying to get 6,000 pounds moving (from a stop every time? -- vs-- from coasting) and is therefor VERY sensitive to how many times it has to do that with the turbos spooled up.
I posted a thread here months ago with the title of "I can get 12 mpg or 24 mpg with my EB --- its my choice."
Look at the rpm's you are using in town to accelerate --- you can do this and never go over 1,500 rpm. It's not as fun as 3,500 -- but one is going to get you further between gas stations.....and the other brings a smile to your face every time.

Hmm gonna hafta disagree with ya there, I took mine out for a road trip with only about 200 miles on it and got 20.7 mpg averaging 70mph. Sticker said 21 hwy so that's pretty close. But I don't baby a new vehicle when breaking it in, I romp on it like it's a redheaded step child from day one with ALL new vehicles including my motorcycle, it gets the rings seated properly faster and also prevents long term oil usage.

Purrs like a kitten and sips fuel with plenty of power in reserve. If anything is going to turn loose during break in it will happen within the first 500 miles.

Yeah, I agree with you about the break in....to a degree. We bought our EB while on a long TT vacation and had to put 1,000 miles on it before we could hook up and tow heavy. We easily got 22 mpg driving around northern Michigan for two days.
That said, the EB does seem to be a bit more powerful now at 15K miles, and getting a bit better mpg at higher speeds than when it was newer.

Thanks for the reply's. The truck has 16k miles on it so far. This smell has just been within be last ~1k miles. My highway/city driving ratio is ~60/40-50/50 range. When I tow my 3500lb trailer the mileage drops to about 8 mpg. I was expecting more. Hell my 07 nlimited jeep rubicon gave me better mileage towing and normal driving.
Other than the poor mpg it's a fantastic truck.
It's a 2013 screw fx4 race red.

The nav software was reinstalled with updated files. The burning smell was from a leaking seal that was dripping fluids onto the exhaust. Problems solved. Now onto finally doing some mods
