You might be able to get away with taking a snapshot of your title, license, insurance and code in case you're pulled over. The fact that you have a given amount of time to produce the information is worth the hassle in my opinion. I'll look up our legal requirements.

Something that I ddin't mention is the fact that the person who went through my truck didn't notice or care for the garage door opener. That seemed odd to me. But this is the reason I never upgrade to a fancy GPS or radio in my vehicles. They'll do more damage breaking into your vehicle that the object they steel is worth. That's how I can tell the age of a person when I see stuff like that installed. Most of us older folk have figured this out. But occasionaly there are those of us who take the risk. I wish I could put nice stuff in my truck, but first I'd like a way to shield it from being identified as nice. Need a factory looking cover to place over a nice GPS/SYNC/etc. system.

What are you talking about! Most police officers ask for Registration in traffic violation.

Don't worry a thief can't claim ownership by stealing your registration.

I figured they could provide proof of registration - say "I'm borrowing the truck from my friend" - and be on their way with my vehicle if it were stolen and they were stopped for some silly thing before the stolen vehicle was showing in the police database. If I have the registration in my wallet they don't have it to provide and it's one more thing that'd make a police officer go "hmmmm" if they got stopped and can't provide proof of registration. That's how I've always done it (not stealing vehicles - keeping my registration in my wallet ). /shrug

I think the police officer will go "hmmmm" when he notices the screwdriver in the ignition.
