Default Key Fob Doesn't Work When Cold

When it's cold outside and the truck has been sitting all night it won't respond to any buttons I press on my key fob. I've tried both key fobs and get the same result each time. I have to keep pressing the buttons before it'll recognize it. If I drive the truck, park it, then press the lock button it works fine. It'll work fine after I go back to unlock it also as long as it hasn't been very long. I made a stop earlier for about an hour and when I got back to my truck it wouldn't respond again. I was standing right next to it pressing the button and still nothing. After pressing the unlock button multiple times it worked. It did the same thing last year when it started to get colder outside. In the summer I never had a single issue.

For the first year I had my truck my key fob barely worked. I would press it like a 1000 times and try and hold it at different angles. Then, this past summer my 1 yo nephew decides to hold it and gets it wet. I thought for sure the thing was toast. Works perfectly now. Odd

Just a guess here, maybe the batteries are weak. I wish I had a better suggestion, but I'm a shade tree mechanic at best. Good luck.

I bought a used 2014 just a few weeks ago. The truck didn't respond to either fob unless you were really close and I had to press the buttons more than once on many occasions. I put fresh batteries in both fobs and the problem is gone.

I wouldn't think a 2 year old truck with under 20K on the odometer would have weak batteries in the key fob, but mind did. My 07 Tacoma still has the batteries that came from the factory in the fobs and they still work great.

CR batteries are crap, and expensive. If there was an alternative, we'd all use it. But we don't want a car remote the size of a TV remote in our pocket.
