"Just Right" Door Detent: Possible Mod
#461
Another satisfied customer here! I bought two sets, because a friend of mine at work wanted a set for his 2013 FX (I have an 2013 XLT). We decided to install them tonight after work in the parking lot. I remembered a couple tricks from this forum (wire tied to the original and the replacement, only pull the top out on the passenger side plastic cover), and we installed both sets in less than an hour. That was doing them one at a time, so one guy could tell the other guy all the stuff he was doing wrong.
We got done and I jumped into my truck and immediately noticed the door opening the right amount. Very cool! I do have one minor thing... My drivers side door now has a squeak/creak when I open it. Not a big deal, but if anyone has run into this and has a solution, I'd appreciate it (and I have spayed some silicone on the rubber bushing that rubs the detent arm with no change).

@ mike d. northlight labs recommends... make sure the two nuts and the bolt are tightened to spec. If they are not, the arm might squeak as it moves through the positions. Let us know if this works for you. Or if you have any questions. Appreciate your post and your business. Peter & Mary.

Torque Specs:
Nuts: 12 Nm & 106 lb-in
Bolts: 25 Nm & 18 lb-ft
We pre-grease the arms but yours may need a little more. We use Bel-Ray waterproof grease, but any high quality automotive grease will do.
If this does not work northlight labs will send you a new DD3.0.

I can't even count now, how many times I've gotten out and realized again that I won't have to rest my door gently against the vehicle next to me, to open my scab door.
Or trying to do the circus trick of holding the front door while trying to open the back door, and not letting it hit whatever while I get my gear from the back seat.
You really can't appreciate the calming effect it has on the mind, till you have that "oh ya" moment.

I've tried loosening and retightening the bolts to see if it was an alignment issue with no luck. I think they are tight enough (and tighter than the OEM arms), but I have a torque wrench, and I can double check that if I can get the specs. Do you happen to have the torque specs for the nuts and bolt?
I assumed it was the new Door Detent 3.0 that was squeaking (I had shot lube on the hinges to make sure). NorthLight Labs were kind enough to rush ship me a new Door Detent 3.0 (Fantastic Customer Support ).
I installed it tonight and MY DOOR STILL SQUEAKS!
So I start listening carefully to the location and it seems higher than the DD3.0, then I realize, it's the door rubbing on the rubber weather stripping just above the hinge. A little lube and no more squeak!!!
I apologize the NorthLight Labs for my stupidity,, and now, I even more highly recommend the product based on how well it works AND the great customer support. Thank You NorthLight Labs!
