Started at 1800 est finished at 1840. hardest part was getting the plastic covers back in place.....each of the parts are actually about 10 minutes worth of work, no string needed although you do need to be careful and not lose grip of them upon removal and installation. They might be difficult to get out of the bottom of the void there. The plastic covers were difficult because of the harnesses and other things in the way. The instructions very helpful and entertaining!

Now the news.... ... ....This morning, there I was at my local caffeine dealer, parked my stead alone away from others. Upon returning with my cup of joe, there was a ugly dodge next to my trusty Lariat. Opening the door my first reaction was to try to catch it, after all, it is the habit. Ahhhh the detent thingy, saved the day! the door stopped at, you guessed it, just the right detent!!! No dents no dings or scratches of things!

Now to modify the habit of catching the door.

Father Northlight thank you for this thing called "just right" Detent!!!

By far the coolest thing!!

Yep, liking mine. Had to get gas at a new place and was watching where the pump was and stopped lined up, went to get out and 'thought' my door's going to hit that column if I don't hold it, so I go to carefully get out to not ding my door and my just right door detent catches, then I remember, "Oh yeah, I put that in a few days ago" and then I really realized how much I like that thing.

It went almost faster than the driver side. It literally took less than 20 mins for both. I didn't have to mess with the plugs though as I didn't have any.
I don't know for sure, but I know the driver side opening had some fluffy packing in it and the passenger side did not. Seemed odd. On the passenger side I only pulled back the plastic cover enough to get my hand in there. I saw people having huge problems getting it back in and as long as I could reach my hand in I was good.

Then I dropped it. Got it back eventually, used the wire then all was good.

Difficulty on driver side 4/10, pass. side 9/10 (for me at least).

Was worth it though.

Wow, so I'm wondering whether I should go ahead and do this too. Kudos to NorthLight for fabbing what by all appearances is an excellent product!

Probably been said before, but I can't understand why Ford would have made such an idiotic detent in the first place. It boggles the mind. I wonder if you can patent this (probably not) and make Ford pay you to use it - as they undoubtedly will - in the next iteration of the F-150?

Well I just did my doors in 10 minutes.. Was pretty easy. No problems on drivers side, got a little tight on passenger side but I did it through the triangle piece I suggested and a little help from a retractable magnet. Thanks north light.

Just put them on today, pretty straight forward install. Removing the side triangle pieces definitely helps getting a second hand in there and putting the seal back on and letting more light into the area. Probably took me 30 minutes all together.

I did have to go back into my SJB box since I somehow caused my front flashers to not operate and my emergency brake light to appear. Just re-checked all the connectors, not sure which one caused it, but back to operating normal now.

Northlight, you have solved my biggest gripe about this truck. I park on a sloping driveway and dealt with this for almost 4 years, not to mention at other parking lots and with kids. Thank you a million times over.

Just finished installing mine. Like a couple others stated I had the old ones out and new ones in in no time flat, probably around 15-20 minutes from pulling truck into garage, to backing it out. I didn't have any problems with either side, but also found the passenger side easier than the drivers mainly due to not working around the emergency brake. I didn't use a string, I just took the arm off the door first then loosened the two nuts on the body, and held on to the check arm. Then reached my hand up into the depths of the unknown, and pulled it out. I also didn't have any problems with the passenger side. Removed the fuse panel, reached up and felt of the rubber plug. Pulled it back just enough to get my hand in and done. Luckily I avoided the dangerous metal bracket that has brought pain and despair to a few of the members.

Big kudos not only to Mr. Northlight, but also Mrs. Northlight, and all the other lab rats. Great customer service, and extremely fast shipping. I'm 100% happy with them, and I can't wait to park in a parking lot now to try them out!

I received my thingies on Thursday. After 17 months of carefulness what happens when I get home that night? Smack! I hit my wifes car door.

I put the thingies on this afternoon. The instructions are clear, the quality of the modded part is equal to OEM, IMO. The install was pretty easy. The toughest part was getting those plastic covers back in place.

The mod is brilliant! Why this isn't an OEM feature is beyond me.

I recommend everyone who does this put "DDT3" or some equally descriptive yet cryptic notation in their sig. The observant will ask "WTF is DDT3"? Then do him/her a favor and direct them here.
