Heath,

I like when the actual company folks are involved in the forums. It lets me know I wont have to deal with same faceless company if I should ever have issues.

I am looking for a cover for my 2017 F-150 XLT and checked out the website looking for info on water infiltration as I routinely need to haul items that I would prefer not get wet (mainly luggage on road trips.)

I saw the FAQ answer on your website but was hoping for a more descriptive answer as to what "leakage" might mean. Are we talking a few drops or a steady stream of water if left out in the rain for a bit? Will the tailgate seal help mitigate that to a large extent? What about some form of silicone sealant under the bed rails or would that be a big no-no due to reducing the overall flexibility of the cover and rails to flex?

I'd also like to request a forum discount code as well please since this really seems like what I am looking for albeit it with small concerns for water infiltration.

Thanks,
--Rick

Hi Rick -

Interacting on this forum is my pleasure! A great community here. I'm glad you found us and are looking at a Peragon truck bed cover for your new F-150. I've PM'd you the details on our forum member bonus offer.

The Peragon cover, like other folding or retractable bed covers, is not waterproof. You will get some drips along the edges and in the corners of the bed. When driving, you'll get virtually zero water in the bed, the rain just blows past. When parked, the amount of water that gets in is a factor of time - even slow drips add up over several hours of steady rain. Our customers are typically quite happy with the level of water protection and consider any leakage to be an acceptable trade-off for the flexibility of a retractable cover. If I'm hauling sensitive cargo like tools or electronics, I use Rubbermaid-style totes to keep everything organized, clean and absolutely dry.

Our Tailgate Seal Kit is primarily intended to keep dust out of the bed when driving on dirt roads. It also helps keep swirling snow out. For the most part, the gap between the tailgate and the bed is not a significant source of water that would affect your cargo. Our cover seals along the top edge of the tailgate, shedding water off.

Silicone sealant wouldn't help much due to the nature of the areas where the water does get in. As you suspected, those tiny spots are dynamic joints where the cover opens and closes. Any sealant added in those spots would be quickly lost.

I hope that helps!

I bought a peragon cover in 2005 and would again love to get a peragon cover. Can you give me info on the member discount and a military discount? Thank you so much.

A PM is on the way! We've made many improvements to our cover in the last 12 years. So if you loved your first Peragon tonneau cover, I'm confident you'll be thrilled with your second!
