Default Jammed Tailgate, Stuck Closed

Does anyone know how to fix a jammed tailgate? I slammed it shut the other day and now it won't open.

I don't recall what size bolt, but with a torx wrench you can remove the bolts holding the tailgate plate inside the bed and get access to the catch. It may be in a bind and you put a flat head to it and get it to release while a compadre lifts the handle for you.

Is the handle not catching like it is locked or your afraid to pull to hard on the handle because you may break it? You can access the tailgate latch internals by taking off the access panel on the inside of the tailgate.

Try standing on the bumper or your hitch while pulling on the handle straight up. That's how I got mine to open when the latch rod inside popped out. It's held in by little clips and one of the clips broke.

Yep you've got a latch rod going from the center to edge side of the tailgate. They are held on by the littlest little clips. I had one fail on my last truck and thankfully happened at a place where I could take the tailgate cover off and it was VERY obvious what the issue was after that.

Get out the torx bits and take the inside panel off and I'm sure you'll figure it out. Slamming it probably knocked one of those rods loose.
