For people who have researched this a little more... What's the pros/cons of the dorman eliminator vs the RCV?

Thanks!

Another crappy drive to work today. 4x4 high worked good, aside from the annoying whistle I get.. got into town with just wet pavement..go to shift to 2wd and of course it struggles to get out of 4. Humming..grinding..etc. took 4 tries before it finally went in smooth.

RCV eliminators are ordered and on the way!

I am very interested in this kit. I covered more than 1500 miles in the last two weeks so im pretty curious about the mpg loss.

I get the whistle too. What is it? It takes longer to disengage 4x4 after I put in Bilsteins but not every time. Everything seemed to go back together nice but I must have screwed something up.

I have never heard it grind though.

Not to get off topic here but the whistle is an odd duck thing. It's much more prevalent under coasting conditions. I also hear it mildly when cruising and just a touch under acceleration. Only in 4x4... I'm led to believe it has to be something within the IWE itself. Really hoping this RCV delete gets rid of the noise and it's not something within the front diff

engine is producing more vacuum when coasting, this might be why you hear a whistle. one of your vacuum lines may have a pin hole.

That was my initial thought.. but here's what's hanging me up:
In 2wd you're pulling vacuum to keep the IWE disengaged.
In 4wd it kills vacuum , allowing the hubs to lock.

I'm only getting the noise in 4wd..shouldn't that be a 0 vacuum condition? I'm not an expert on this system by any means..that's just how I understand it works.

so it's not the IWEs making the noise then. check further upstream where the vacuum is still present is my take.

I replaced both IWEs as they were locked out solid and immovable. Don't know how the previous owner logged 18mpg but anyways when I pulled the vac lines fine dust came out of them, wonderful. careful install and everything was working fine until went on tougher ride yesterday. going uphill part throttle partly turned right and LF began slight popping. truck is lifted via Icon 2.5s + way heavier tire and wheel combo so a perfect storm for IWE failure it seems. Just ordered the RCV Eliminators! To heck with the vacuum system. Not a daily driver. Diff and xfr case fluid changes coming up, still having fun
