i made some progress this afternoon. Deleted the pairings on both devices, rebooted the phone and re-paired.

I finally have the show notifications option in my phone, however MFT still says that my phone doesn't support text msgs when I try to enter that menu. Urg. so close.

I am running iPhone 4S and MFT Sync Gen2 Version 3.5.1 in a '13 Limited.

**Edit** When I went back to the truck after writing this, i was able to get to the message options in the phone, then I got a text 20 mins later. Seems to be working now. !

From what I'm reading it seems like the MFT in 2013's can text. But unless I'm really confused nobody in a 2012 with sync/Nav has the show notifications tab showing up in their iPhones...
Tomorrow ill try that new software and nav update and see what happens...

good luck, I hope you can get it working. I all but gave up, especially after i saw this PDF from Ford that shows what phones work for text etc. Pretty much any phone that no one uses work but any popular phones don't. However i got mine to work so who knows. Probably just a way for them to say they can't help.

2012 Lariat with SYNC/Nav on AT&T.

SYNC
NAV 6.0 (The newest update, recently released, bought the $200 DVD's from Ford couple weeks ago.)
Didn't work before or after the update.

Tried multiple times to delete the pairing on both the phone and the stereo.

Tried multiple settings/combinations in advanced settings on the stereo, nothing works.

I agree, it does seem to work with some people with MFT. But haven't came across anyone who has a 2012 with Sync/Nav that works.

It just doesn't have the "Show Notifications" option in the phone bluetooth settings, doesn't matter if I am sitting in the drivers seat with the truck running and sacrificing a chicken, it just doesn't show up.

I'm own a small software company and am a hardcore electronics/tech geek, so its not like I am technologically challenged.

I did a bunch of research on this and it seems that the iPhone Bluetooth screen is dynamic and reconfigures itself based on the BT connection. If you aren't seeing the "Show Notifications" option (in the truck with phone paired; iPhone, settings, Bluetooth, touch blue arrow to right of "Sync", this is the Sync BT profile), you may need to re-pair your phone. You want to force a completely new connection. I found these steps on another forum and fixed them up a little to help make them clearer and less ambiguous. The hardest part for me, when I was doing this was trying to figure out what to do on the phone and what to do on the truck.

Hope this helps!

1) Truck - Delete phone from BT device list.
2) Phone - Delete Sync from BT connection list.
3) Phone - Reboot. (Do steps 4 & 5 while you wait for this to finish)
4) Truck - Turn off, pull the key, open the door.
5) Truck - Close the door, restart.
6) Truck/Phone - Pair your phone fresh w/MFT. Let it finish.
7) Phone - Turn BT off.
8) Phone - Turn BT on.
9) Truck - Hit "connect" on the MFT screen to reconnect BT.
10) Phone - Go into the BT Profile Settings screen for Sync (little arrow to the right of Sync, in Settings, Bluetooth)
11) Phone - Set Notifications to "On".
12) Phone - Back up a screen and turn BT off again.
13) Phone - Turn BT back on.
14) Truck - Hit "connect" on the MFT screen again to reconnect to phone.

Did this work for anyone else who had prior issues?

I had this problem and used this basic process to fix mine. When I did it, I turned everything on and off, and rebooted both truck and phone about 5 times. Eventually, I managed, mostly through luck, to get the sequence right and the "Show Notifications" toggle appeared in my BT settings.

Once that happened and I toggled it on, it still didn't work. I gave up on it and the next day when I got in the truck, it was working.

I think these instructions are the streamlined version of all that screwing around.

Ill admit I have not tried things in this exact combination, just mainly deleting, repairing, rebooting. Just never seen step #11 ever, who knows maybe this is the magic sequence.

2012 and earlier doesn't have MFT, which is what I think the problem is, but I will definitely at the very least give this a shot.

Yeah I have a '12. Wonder if that means I'm SOL on this working.

These are the steps i took to get my 4S to work with my '13 MFT. From what i read on other forums is that the sequence does have a lot to do with it. After a week of fighting with it, mine is working fine now.
