Default IPad mini install question

So I've finally decided to do the iPad install but am not a fan of losing the radio controls. After weeks of trying to decide how to do this I think I might have found a way. The first picture is the 2012 basic radio with sync that I have now. The second is the 2013 factory nav. Name: photo326.jpg

And the A/C controls as well? I understand the cd slot would not line up but as long as I still have the buttons I would be fine with that.

The wiring connection is probably the same but that's it. You could not get the '13 finish panel and have it fit over your '12 radio and ac.

I have been thinking of how I want to upgrade my basic stereo. I have the same basic setup as you. I have heard about the iPad mini install but have never seen one first hand. What is the reasoning to install an iPad mini VS an aftermarket screen or oem screen?

Here's mine.

I plugged mine into the MFT dash piece and everything works fine. I can't change the clock though but that's no big deal. I have a thread on here that outlines everything I did.

A tablet is the best option for any vehicle. Period. The apps are endless and you can choose any navigation or music service you want. Mine connects via Bluetooth and sounds amazing. There is no aftermarket stereo that can equal an iPad mini or other tablet.

The data plan for streaming music would be outrageous!

I'll disagree with this!

There are many aftermarket HUs that can and will do more than a tablet install.

Are there aftermarket headunits that give you Google Maps, Gmail, iTunes, Spotify, Pandora, Sirius, Internet Browsing, Video Calls (Facetime on the iPad), etc, etc, etc? The apps are endless. If an aftermarket headunit can provide all this I'd like to see it.

I don't pull any punches while using mine and I use about 8 gigs a month on mine.
