Default Intermittent grinding in 4wd only

does not do this every time, in 4 wheel high. normally don't use low range so I don't know if it happens then. could it be caused from the traction control, it is only coming from the drivers side front. as long as I go real slow don't recall the grinding but when I gas it pretty good it happens. my truck is 2013 Screw. I have jacked up the front and with motor off the the front axle turns and when started spins free.

The IWE(s) may not be fully engaged. Turning it by had it might have enough of the gears meshed but, power from the engine will make it slip out. If that is the case, you probably have an issue with the IWE(s) itself.

Other possibility is the front diff or transfer case but, I suspect an IWE issue.

I would also suspect the IWE. Sound like it may not be fully engaging and/or slipping.

My 2010 did the same thing.. It was under warranty so took it to the Ford Dealer.. It ended up being a small vacuum check valve on the firewall near the master brake cylinder.
I was told if I would have continued to let it go, it *could* have caused major damage to both from wheel splines.

MY IWE's are popping and grinding when engaged. I suspect the shop crushed/damaged the vacuum lines when adjusting my Fox Coilovers but I can't prove it so I am switching to the RCV eleminators on my own dime just so I don't have to deal with this crappy vacuum system ever again and will happily replace CVs when/if the boots fail from the extra wear and tear. If you don't wanna mess with the vacuum hub delete at least do yourself a solid and upgrade your vacuum lines https://forged-offroad.com/product/2...v=7516fd43adaa

FYI He is in 4wd. There is no vacuum involved unless the vacuum from the engine isn’t completely shut off. So I guess there could be but, that hasn’t been a commonly reported failure.
