Default Interesting experience with Capless fuel filler

I stopped at a gas station last night to fill up and could not get the nozzle in to the capless system. It seems the station I stopped at just replaced the nozzles on all of their pumps. The diameter of the new nozzles are a little smaller than the old ones, and just enough that it wouldn't all it to open the flap.

I ended up holding the nozzle to one side and using a pen knife on the other, that allowed the flap to open and me to fill the truck.

After this experience, it might be time to figure out how to replace that filler with an old style.

I'm wondering if they didn't replace the filler nozzle with the diesel nozzles - those are larger, ya know.

I've had my flap stick on me and had to pound it open with the nozzle. Irritating little thing. What was so wrong with the gas cap we've all been using since the 1930s ?

And not all diesel nozzles are larger. The dmax's have a regular size nozzle filler hole and only recently upgraded to the larger one. I think ford recently upgraded in the last few years as well. So not all diesel nozzles are larger. Actually, unless you go to a truck stop, it's rare to find a large one. Sure is nice filling up with a large one. Just a couple minutes to fill 36gal.

I'm not sure I follow.....the new nozzle was too SMALL to fit in the fill neck...?

I have not had issues with mine. I kinda like it. It's nice not having a filler cap dangling and scratching the pain surface. Plus, if you overfill slightly, it drips behind the panel, not down your paint. As far as nozzle issues, I have never experienced that. Must have been an odd sized nozzle for sure.

mine did this once last summer. i was on an 18 hour drive and in the middle of it i found a pump that wouldn't open the flap. i hit the nosel in there a lot harder then i wanted to and it worked. but that's the only time i had a problem. But i think it might have had more to do with the angle of the nozzel not the size.

If you should find yourself in a postion such as this... don't forget there's a Ford supplied funnel in your truck.
