Default Intake Snorkel deeper sound, better mileage, improved throttle response.

Hey all!
Anybody ever notice the the intake snorkel on the 2010 5.4 is a lot smaller than that the perfectly interchangeable one on the 2011 5.0??? I see a lot of guys doing the "Gotts mod" which is all well and good but after some reading i have found a few instances of people loading their intake boxes up with leafs and dirt. Now on a few other " lesser" Forums people have already played around with this idea, which I liked so I went ahead and bought one yesterday and picked it up this afternoon. I'm willing to bet the part will make it just a little bit louder and up the throttle response a bit. If there is any interest ill post some before and after videos. What do y'all think?

Default Actually.... not bad, Improvements were made.

Left is the new intake snorkel, Right is the old one.

The sound is a little deeper but just slightly until you roll on the throttle, then intake noise is audible. The two areas that saw actual improved were the mileage and acceleration. My better half and I took a 100 mile trip to cape cod last night on top of a 20 mile commute to work this morning and the truck is averaging almost 2MPG better! Thats right. I maintained my same driving habits cruising about 80-85 on the highway and MPG went up 1.8 to be exact. Merging onto the highway and launching from a dig also showed a difference. Pulls from 60-90 are harder, probably due to higher volumetric efficiency of the newer intake snorkel " its bigger so more air can move through"..." less restrictive". From a dig " dead Stop" the throttle response was slightly better as the engine was able to pull in more air with less resistance, resulting in a truck that " gets up and goes" faster and pulls harder until you let off.

Over all, I'm quite happy with the MOD. The part cost me $5.86USD.

The difference in size between the two intake snorkels is more than I expected.

I like to see numbers so I can quantify things better in my mind.
I might dyno the Two.

Hey folks - snorkel removal - and results with data - was discussed in detail here - a good read:

http://www.f150online.com/forums/200...highlight=2009

Don't expect miracles - all high rpm gains only, and a 5-6 hp bump. Not gonna transform a 6,000 lb truck. The 09+ intakes are already stellar stock. Noticeable on paper (and dyno graphs) but not a butt-dyno - nice placebo effect though, lol.

And don't fergit Bernoulli's principle - snorkel throttling keep velocity high across the rpm band - so appearances can be deceiving . You don't want to rob Peter to pay Paul - most driving is NOT @ WOT....
