So you're telling me there's absolutely ZERO possibility that the dealer can hook the truck up to his little computer and force a gauge sweep on an '09 when a '10 is perfectly capable of doing so and does so automatically from the factory? I already know there's no way to set that up yourself using the setup function on the dash.
I'm not saying I want to do this, I just find it very hard to believe that you're certain it can't be done when it's very likely that nothing has changed in the computer programming on the trucks from one year to the next.

Excellent! My IC reboot/reset while I was driving the other day. All the gauges went to zero, lights came on - for about 1 second and then it went back to normal.
Will be neat to see if the test shows anything up. Doubt it - but worth a shot.

The '09 and '10 PCM programming is not the same. Major differences are e-fans and updated trans s/w. There is no way you can make the '09 trucks perform this function at the dealer. You would need to get an aftermarket programmer to perform this function.

May I ask why one would want the needles to sweep during each start? My '10 does this, and I don't really care that it does, now that I know it's supposed to...but if it didn't do it, I wouldn't care either. Is there a specific reason that it's good to have this happen? Just curious...does it give me some indication that things are working properly or something?

It's mainly a gadget thing for Ford. Competitors are doing it along with some of the Ford cars. Brand marketing has more to do with it than engineering. It is eye catching and seems to be working.
