Default Inept or careless? Dealer Fail.

Dropped my '14 off for the transmission buzzing TSB Monday late afternoon. They wanted it inside o a lift before closing so it wouldn't have to be run and get hot then work on it.

My wife and I made a 14 mile round trip to drop it off; her following me so I could get a ride back.

They indicated it would be done after lunch on Tuesday, so after my wife and I went to a Dr appt of hers we stopped by so I could check on the progress (about 1130 Tuesday).

I noticed it outside and wondered why they hadn't yet called me.

I went in and found my SA and he said 'I was just getting ready to call you; they ordered the wrong part for the separator plate - do you want to leave it or take it and come back once the parts come in?'

Trying to hold my bit of frustration here I said I'd just take it and let me know when it came it.

Am I out of line here for being a bit upset about this? We made a special trip to drop it off; and should the parts not been verified when they came in and not right before the job began?

Now we have to make another 14 mile round trip in two cars to drop off again - I think I need a free oil change or something perhaps.

I'm sure if you mentioned it to your SA he may hook you up with a free oil change and a wash...

I mean... So they just ordered the wrong part? Was this the first time it's happened to you? I suppose mistakes happen. If it was the first time they had done something like that, I'd probably be annoyed. =z 14 mile round trip isn't a big deal. At least I wouldn't really feel like it would be. However I drive about 60+ miles a day lol. But for the inconvenience I suppose you could ask for an oil change.

2nd time in 3 years, which translates to about 5 visits. Live and work in same town so commute is a little over a mile

When they did that same TSB on my truck, they asked me to stop by so they can put my truck on the lift to get the date code from the transmission, before they order parts.

I went back a week or so later, and they fixed it that same day.

I'm wondering how they 'were sent the wrong parts'. I think that means 'we screwed up' but it;s easier to say they were sent the wrong ones.

This is the same place the backed a car into my rear bumper and scratched it. I managed to polish it out but still. The next dealer who I actually feel is competent is almost an hour away is why I took it back here. Also since it was two trips and not a 'wait for '.

I would say they just ordered the part after looking at it. The dealer does not stock all parts and def not ones that they don't use regularly. They may have some but don't want stock laying around. Sucks... And it's a store/business none the less owned by a group or similar. Common misconception or lead to believe is they have parts there so they keep you there or get you in.

mhm, yeah... I drive 40 miles x 2 to go buy a jar of honey every month or so, so 14 miles really doesn't seem like that much of a "drive" to get to a dealer... I'm sure it's close to that to go to the dealer where I bought the truck from, and it's still "in town".
I can see you being a little annoyed by the fact that they ordered the wrong part, but posting here and demanding a free oil change AND something else, jee, no wonder these trucks cost so much...

1st-world entitlement?

I would be a little pissed to but not that much. I would not complain about the drive. I read your post and laughed and thought that must be a type-o. A 7 mile trip to the dealer is nothing IMO. I drive 7 miles to get a gallon of milk and I live at the edge of town, Maybe just a little bit bigger town I would guess.
