Indicators or tests to conduct before purchase?
I have been reading all over this forum for the past week. I have owned several new cars and knew going in there could have been issues and sure enough I got a few of them (my 370z would run high temps and both Tundras I owned had bad bed bounce). Now I am looking at a buying a 2012 Super Crew EcoBoost but before I drive away I want to do everything in my power to not buy a problem (shuddering, limp mode, poor mpg and wheel popping).
I understand that some of you, as do thousands of other F150 owners, don't have any of these issues. I would like to be one of those owners as well. Any advice?

Welcome to the forum. There's no way to know that any given problem will happen to the new truck you pick. I would say there are more with no problems than there are with. Pick the truck you like, and drive her home. The warranty will fix the problems if they occur. If you worry about things happening you won't be able to enjoy that new truck.

Sure, I threw that out the window after 21 years in the Marine Corps. All joking aside, somebody would be an idiot to spend $40k without a little due diligence. Chances are for the Casino and Lottery Tickets.

Some on the forum would debate this with you based on the experiences they are having with Ford.

Most do manifest themselves later in life. The only one you can really look for is the 55 MPH up hill issues, maybe. Don't worry what the MPG is telling you, I used to be in the camp of OMG I'm getting HORRIBLE MPG until I realized the only way to get close to sticker is to drive the truck like a 90 year old blue hair on a Sunday after Church driving to a brunch with Edna. If you do drive like this then you will be happy with the MPG, but void the reason (at least my reason) to have and enjoy an Ecoboost.
